At the local Merlo's in Medford, most of the young employees I've spoken to I would like to think possibly came away from our conversations perhaps a bit more enlightened as to what they were selling.
The lady who works there now is an exception. She is an older woman into her 50's I'd guess, and IMO is pretty sharp about knives. I know that's not saying much considering the track record of mall cutlery shop workers, but I think she could join right in as a welcome forumite!
She never tries to sell me anything anymore, as she knows I always have a nice blade on me above and beyond what her employer has to offer in the shop....
Apparently she collects antique knives exclusively with MOP handles. I guess her passion started with a collection she inherited. I showed her my custom damascus Buck 110 with pearl one day, and she just kind of checked it out nonchalantly. Polite, but definitely not overly impressed. She must have some fine knives!
Anyway, a fresh change from what has all too often become the norm described by Gollnick.
