So if you lived in the Alaska bush...

Kephart talks about using his POCKET knife to dress game. Like I said earlier. The only reason, for me, to carry a fixed blade is to have something that can split wood without having to carry a heavy axe. And you're welcome to try and start your fire with twigs in my neck of the woods. :D It's not as easy as everyone from other environments makes it out to be. To each their own.
That's interesting about the pocket knife. It makes sense but I had never heard of it before. I agree with you about the batoning in the Pacific Northwest , I lived across the sound from Seattle for a few years and it's soaking wet like a jungle all the time.

The knife in your avatar, what is it please?

Blackie Scantling the knife in my avatar is a longer version of the 2008 anniversary knife made by our very own John Kiedaisch of JK Custom knives. The blade is 6 1/4 inches long with about a 5 inch handle and is 3/16 of inch thick of O1 steel. It would make a great Alaska bush knife.
