So iv been saving up my money for a bit. Just a little here and there and now i have about 100$. Im looking to get a new knife something more of an edc knife.
Right now all i have is a buck 110, i got it because my dad has a similar knife even though i think his is a schrade that he has had since he was a kid.
I love my 110 and all but its kind of umm.. A tad bit heavy and awkward to carry every day for me.
Im looking more along the lines of pocket carry and not belt carry. I tend to get things that are clipped on my belt caught on things at work.
I work where they drop the pallets of merchandise in a store so there is plenty to get grabbed on.

Now for what im looking for.
I dont use my knife a whole ton very occasionally to be honest.
When i do use it its for something simple like opening up a box, or some mail. Occasionally cutting open a new DVD or video game lol.
I every once in a while will cut something up to eat while on break if i dont have anything else to cut with.

I cant say that me having a knife is 100% necessary but it just makes me feel better. (before you ask though i wont be cutting up cardboard with my knife, while im at work i do have a utility knife, a folding stanly one that i bought at target for a real good price)

Having a knife with me just makes me feel safer in case i might need it. Especially in the car you never know what might happen and it could potentially save your life.
But im rambling now :p.

Id like the knife to be pocket-able so no huge knives, that and i dont want people to look at it and be scared so i think i want to stay away from the tactical knife scene.

I also am very weary of the law, and i even know people who are cops and have asked and haven't gotten a straight answer. Dirks daggers stilettos gravity knives and switchblades are illegal. I believe assisted knives are illegal but i showed my friend anther friends kershaw blur (i believe i dont know much about knives) and he said he would confiscate it and leave a warning with the person for it because it potentially looks like a weapon.

How much sense that makes or if he is a very good cop is beyond me but i think id rather stay away from assisted, would just give me a peace of mind.

Know for size requirements.
Im not really sure but i think id like it to be a bit smaller then my buck 110 but considerably lighter if possible. I also would like a pocket clip.
For blade length i guess id have to say 4 inches or smaller (i dont see myself needing anything larger then that for any reason)
For blade material, i dont really know, i dont know much about knives but i have goggled a bit and found that aus 8 and 8CR13MOV (correct me if im wrong on the names) are supposed to be good EDC steels and dont cost a ton.
I also had a good experience with my bucks 420HC steel so thats always a option.

For handle material, since i dont have alot of knife experiences i dont know the difference between Zytel FRN and other materials. So aslong as itll have decent texture and will be durable it isnt going to be a concern.

Lock type, this also doesnt seem to be a big deal, I would like the knife to be more one handed opening and closing then my buck 110 (i can do it but its just difficult) Weather its a liner lock a lock back or the thicker where the side of the knife is the lock (sorry for my ignorance but i dont know the name)

Weight, now im not too savvy on weight but im pretty sure the buck 110 is like 7 or 8 oz. So if possible id like to be like 4-5oz for weight.

Also this isnt must but it would just make me happy lol. I got 100$ but id like to spend the least amount as possible (i only got that because idk if the cheaper knives are any good) but id like to be able to take my gf out one day next week and itd be like 30 bucks so keep that in mind please (she also would be much happier if i didnt spend alot because she isnt giving me a hard time about me buying one so id like to do something nice for her)

Sorry for such a long post (my 1st post so i wanted to give you guys a idea of my every day life)
Thanks in advanced for the help :p

inexpensive, reliable quality: ontario rat 1 - around 30$, kershaw oso sweet - around 20$, enlan el 02 - around 20$. The rat is bigger than the enlan, enlan is bigger than the oso.

P.D. if u get the rat don't get the black blade, the paint chips off easily, but this is one of the best bang for the buck folders u will ever find.

Alright, so should i get the satin blade then?

In ND you can carry any knife you want unconcealed, or concealed if you have a CCW firearms permit. Without a permit you can conceal a 5" regular folding knife (non-auto non-balisong) or fixed blade. So legally, there's quite a lot of knives you can carry without fear of running afoul of the law. I'm not sure how assisted knives fit within ND's laws, but it's better to err on the side of caution.

As for what knife, $100 can get you plenty. Perhaps the best bang-for-your-buck knife around $100 is a Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Great steel, G10 fiberglass handles (lightweight and extremely strong), excellent ergos, and a rock solid lock. If you want to save a few bucks, look at the Delica, Endura, or Stretch from Spyderco, or any number of knives from Kershaw. Benchmades are excellent knives, and although generally more expensive, they have many under $100 that are great, like the Griptilian.

Ah alright thanks alot, and thanks for helping me know my limits with the law, ill have to go look at all of those thats alot to think about.

+1 on the Para 2 if you can afford it. You should also look at the catalogs of Kershaw and Spyderco that are at the top of the forum page.

I would say Kershaw will give you the most for your money and they have some nice unassisted knives too.

The two that come to mind is the RAM and the Groove.

I have a gray G10 Groove and besides being the perfect size for pocket carry, it's actually a very nice looking knife too. ( I think I paid under $50 ea)

If you want to go the more expensive route , I bought a Benchmade Bone Collector in G10 for a little over $100 and IMO it's one the best bargains to come out of Benchmade. It's a lttle bulky, but I think it's a great knife for the price.

Here's mine

The Para2 is definitely a great knife if you are prepared to blow your whole budget on the one item. However, for your $100 I reckon you could probably get an Ontario RAT-1 (awesome bang for buck knife), a decent Swiss Army Knife such as a Victorinox Tinker/Super Tinker and still have money left over to take the GF out. :)

Rat-1 for a larger knife and Ka-Bar Dozier folder for a smaller one. You'll still have $50 left for fun.

If you want to spend a little more, the Spyderco Native, Spyderco Delica, Kershaw Blur, BM Griptillian, and Buck Vantage Pro all come to mind. Look up KerhsawGuy and pick up a couple of his factory Blems or a ZT for a great price!

alright ill look up kershaw guy when i get home from work gota go now tho

so i looked on kershaw guy but nothing really jumped out at me honestly.
So the quest continues lol

If you really want a good knife, get something from Benchmade. I have a drawerfull of the things just because I love them. I have a couple of the Bone Collector series shown earlier and you cant go wrong there. My favorite though is one of the Rampage folders. Either the mini or the full sized one, which ever you like best. They are assisted opening though but i have read that they are even legal in California, one of the looniest states in the Nation. If you are worried, just be careful who you flip it open in front of. They are awesome pocket knives.

share your drawer with me :p

On topic, how is the axis lock? i dont really kniow much about it but it from looks looks like it would get messed up if it got sand or anything in it.

+1 on the Para II. I have knives that were way more and way less and if I had $100 to spend on one knife that would probably be it.

I would also suggest trying to find a local dealer that stocks knives and try to handle a few to see what you like. I've have several catch and release knives that I've bought based on others recommendations that I just didn't like.
