So in NY almost ANY folder can be illegal

LE in NYC can pick you up for the pocket clip, a chain or fob (because they are sometimes attached to knives) or just a plain old bulge is enough for RAS...in NYC. Concealed = invisible and even then mostly only if you're white. Stop and frisk is always a possibility for no RAS and if they find a knife there's a good chance you're just going to be arrested and charged with 3rd degree possession.

Carry concealed is not an indication of unlawful intent (carry as a weapon), pretty sure the cited case involved a man actually copping to carrying a sub 4" blade for SD. My knife is always a tool, never a weapon and the DA will have to prove otherwise without my help.

Even at sub 4" and single edge it might still be a "dangerous knife", but that implies some sort of design feature or modification that makes it more...deadly (?!).

Even though the gravity knife interpretation is limited mostly to NYC, I am pretty much FB carry 100%.
