i am trying to put my knives in 5.11 traverse pants' knife pockets, but somehow it turns out that random chinese pants accept almost any knife without any problem, while the special "cordura reinforced blah-blah section" is, like: "this is not a knife, this isn't too, and that one i wouldn't accept so you better throw your xm18, 0550 and everything else in a trash." are they made for 5.11 knives only? the ridiculous one in the whole thing is that rear pockets don't have any problem, but it isn't stated they are even designed for carrying knives at all... am really disappointed in these "tactical" pants.

Those are all rather large knives. I suspect—more study may be required—that 5.11 designed that pocket with smaller knives in mind. Just a guess, though.

It is the same way with certain brands of knife storage bags too.

Knives that are on the larger (4-inch or more) side don't always fit so well.

not a problem of size. they are stopping on the very top of pocket, just the impossibility of clip to split from the knife by pocket's material. that simple.

Some of my 5.11 pants take a bit of finagling to get some knives to clip because the cloth at the pocket is thick. Not the end of the world, though. I actually like it because the cloth doesn't wear down.

My 5.11 tac light pro's have fit all my ZT's nicely. I don't have any experience with the traverse series. Something I'll check out the next time I go shopping at my local dealer :D

True that, but it's knife-related. And as we don't have Knife Pants forum, I'm not sure where else we'd put it. ;)

Only the first post was off topic. This is absolutely not the first time.

Yup!

Oh, and on topic, I have had no problems with figuring out how to clip a knife to any of my pants, 5.11 or otherwise. Rocket Science it is not.

That's probably because they aren't hi-speed tactical pants. :D

Its crazy that this:

"but it isn't stated they are even designed for carrying knives at all"

should even be a concern. Its a pocket for heavens sakes.

That said, they are 5.11 pants, and so I could see them being designed to fit only 5.11 knives. That would be typical.

Perhaps tactical jorts are a better option?...

I have several pairs of 5.11 pants and shorts and the pockets work just fine with all my knives. I suspect the problem might be user error. Just take a look at all the other threads the OP has started. You will notice a trend.

The guy just seems to have exacting tactical gear standards, that's for sure. But you gotta admire a guy who knows what he wants. I guess.

I have not have had any problems putting appropriately-sized objects in my pockets (Levis 501s; Dockers Signature Khaki, classic fit), but, admittedly I'm not that tactical.

Though I do sometimes carry a Maxpedition tactical man-purse/Fatboy. Everything fits ok in it.
