So, I've got 100 dollars...

Every knife nut needs a delica if you don't already own one do yourself a favor and get yourself one

I've got a Rat 1 in my pocket. Beautifully executed liner lock in coyote brown with a 3.6" AUS-8 blade that is shaving sharp and easy to keep that way. Flow through, pillar construction and a handle that shows the designer knew something about ergonomics. It's a superb knife (and I say that as a ZT fan boy) that costs under $40.

Highly recommended.

👍 True that! You can even find them for less than 25 USD NIB!

Do some research and spend all $100 on one quality knife instead of a few cheap ones. All good recommendations above except the cold steel...unless you can't afford anything more.
I just got my first Cold Steel a few weeks ago after learning about the new steel models and handling the old steel Cold Steels at a local knife shop. I was impressed with the build quality at the store and I happy with the American Lawman with xhp steel that I just received. Seems to be a very strong knife with a high quality steel for less than 100 dollars.
Also think a Delica or Endura would be a good choice.

Elmax Blur or Knockout both run about $100. Or if you want a pliers-based multi-tool and a knife, maybe a Wingman and a Camber or S30V Blur. Or maybe a Skeletool and Delica/Endura. Or a Wave and a Dozier Folding Hunter.

I would recommend Cold Steel as well (bucking some advice). Especially in that price range.

It would help to know what your intended uses will be.

I will mainly be using it for EDC, but I will occasionally be doing some heavier tasks with it. I know the tri ad lock is supposed to be one of the strongest, but I have never owned a cold steel, so I haven't had any experience with it.

There's much better options than cold steel at around 100$. You can get much better steel than AUS8a for that price, and better F&F. A delica 4 zdp-189 is perfect for light edc, a mini grip is good for edc and can also take a beating (same with the full-size). If you really want a cold steel for whatever reason, spend a little more than the 100$ and get the ultimate hunter. Again, I recommend sticking to other brands than cold steel, The knife a person Carrys says a lot.. Unless you're somebody like singularity35, and you HAVE to have a knife that passes spinewhacks tests at ALL costs.

See if you can get 'hands on' first, but I can recommend the Cold Steel XHP Recon 1 or Code 4, both really good knives, the Tri-ad lock is really strong and they are tough as well.
For some great liner locks, the Kershaw Blur or Blackout are also favourites of mine, and are a little smaller. The Blackout really sits well in the hand.

I think some great advice has been given here. I prefer one quality folder to multiple cheap knives. Some great deals can be found in the exchange, and also just by making friends on the forum and getting to talking. I have scored some great deals from friends I have met on here. If it were my money I would buy SAK Alox Farmer and a used Spyderco Sage 1. That would pretty much cover all your EDC bases. Hell I think just a nice SAK can handle pretty much any task. If you rather spend less than that I would go with the RAT 1 like others have recommended, or an Essee Zanacudo. I have my issues with both of them, but for the money they represent great value.

I have found myself in this exact same situation recently 2 times, did a recon 1 xl the first time and a griptilian the second
