So let me be clear: I’m proud to be straight and I consider being straight among the greatest gifts God has given me.

How about that now

If that's the greatest gift you have...well...that's rather sad.

Sorry, but you get no prize.

In the spirit of the thread, I guess I'm proud to be straight, tall and right-handed.
Pretty pleased about having skin as well; I think life would be less fun without skin.

Bragging or complaining?

I am guessing 22 posts before the move to W&C.

Neither but making a point. Anyone see the absurdness of the statement yet? I guess you have to be TC to have everyone applause.

That looks to be a very odd movie.

It is quite odd and really disturbing actually... Back to my chickens though: I made the statement not to broadcast my sexual orientation (although make no mistake :) but to point out to the statement made right here: http://mobile.businessweek.com/articles/2014-10-30/tim-cook-im-proud-to-be-gay and to the sheer absurdness of it. I mean really? PROUD to be? One of the GREATEST GIFTS? And the media eats it right up and everyone nods and sheds a tear? And it's not amusing either as if JLAW said it. Just not right. Free speech but when did the world stop actually listening to the words?

Your initial post may have made a bit more sense and gotten some different responses had the link been included in the first post.

Myself, I don't give a rodents backside what anybodies sexual orientation is. I segregate into jerk/not jerk.

The whole point was not to make the initial connection. My statement by itself is taken as it should be by those who replied. Rightfully so. Why isn't TC's statement treated for what it is? Absurd. You can and should be proud of serving your country, of saving a life and you can consider your children, friends, family and good fortune to be the greatest gifts... This guy's statement is bizarre at best and [insert expletive here] at worst.

Anyhow, that's my 2 cents on the subject.

His statement isn't treated the same because of context.

You made a random statement that had no bearing. Well it had a bearing towards females of course but it is still just a random personal statement that could be taken many different ways because of the lack of context.

Tim Cook's statement was just a small part of a personal essay.

In Post #6 of this thread you say "when did the world stop actually listening to the words?" I think that you focused too much into the words of this one little sentence.

What I get from the entirety is that he feels that being gay in todays society helped him shape who he is and who he wants to be and represent. Sexual orientation is just a small part of the human essence, yet homosexuality is deemed the taboo and can and probably does put different kind of pressure on a person than the norm.

All he is doing is accepting who he is and using English words to purvey his thoughts.

What do you mean?

Sometimes when I go to reply I get a pop up asking if I want to stay on the page or leave it. Seems like there is no right answer to the question. Every time I get that box I get a double post.

I always found it bizarre that people take pride in something that they didn't achieve.

You're proud to be homosexual? Congratulations, you're not special in your own species, let alone the rest of the Animal Kingdom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals

You're proud of a college sports team from a university that you're not an alumnus of? "We" didn't make the playoffs, buddy.

You're proud of your skin color? Unless you won cosmetic surgery as some sort of prize for defeating a Minotaur at the center of an enchanted maze how can you take pride in something you have zero control over?

Anyone that speaks to "the media" is not genuine. They're an attention whore that wants the spotlight for another ten minutes of fame. I guess it worked, though, because now I'm off to Google who the hell "Tim Cook" is and see if this guy has ever done anything worthwhile besides steal five minutes of my life tonight.
