So let me be clear...

Google says Tim Cook has a net worth of more than $400 million dollars. He's not proud of that achievement. He's proud of his genetic predisposition. Rich people are so out of touch with reality it hurts.

So I read the essay by Tim Cook the OP linked to. Would you guys feel better if he had used the word 'grateful'? Because the impression I got was that he is grateful to be gay, and proud of being open about it.

How about we lighten the mood with song? Enjoy!

Not my music nor my video. Just happen to like the tune and it's paired with a good reel.

Considering the man, I take his words exactly as he places them. When I replaced one word with basically an antonym - the reaction wasn't as you put it. My statement was taken word for word. I did not take the man's words out of context either. You are being sympathetic and understandably so given the man's credentials. Hence my post. I have no credentials here and my use of words such as Proud and God's Gifts are taken as they should be. This is the point I am trying to make. Family, friends, luck, hard work, coworkers, etc - that is what shapes you and your work. That is what you should be proud of and be thankful for and consider a gift. Just think about it. Read his statement and the entire article again and replace the word "gay" with the word "straight" - now, does that make sense to you at all? It doesn't, does it? Why not? Why can't you apply your logic now? I can't fault you, just trying to show the hypocrisy and absurdness of what we came to accept and even praise unfortunately.

I am straight and while I haven't made hundreds of millions yet I work very hard. The people that support me and have done it throughout my life are the gift. My family, my friends, my coworkers, my enemies even. It is their achievements that made mine possible and that is what I am proud of. It isn't my big d$&k which I am so fortunate to be blessed with. Come on.

Replace the word "gay" with "white" and sit back and watch the "OMG YOU ARE RACIST!" festival.

".............. There are many places where landlords can evict tenants for being gay, or where we can be barred from visiting sick partners and sharing in their legacies. Countless people, particularly kids, face fear and abuse every day because of their sexual orientation.

You're right, that quote wouldn't make any sense if I replaced the word "gay" with "straight"

.............. So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy."

So let him feel proud. What do you care?

Fair observation indeed. Now you are picking up what I'm putting down. So why is the word "gay" accepted here? Anyone?

It is little by little that we lose what we lose... As I said - free speech, but some of us choose to listen and learn. What I learned from the guy's statement and the media's reaction as well as the public is not something I feel "proud" of.

There are many places where landlords can evict tenants for any or no reason. Just as many places where tenants can not pay rent and then file for extensions in court and live rent-free for up to a year before eviction is finalized.

I would think if the CEO of Apple was actually concerned with privacy then he wouldn't bend over backwards to appease the NSA and FBI with regards to extra-judicial electronic eaves-dropping, file decryption, and signal interception.

And one more thing... I own and work with 6 apple products and they are good. Guess what Mr. Cook? They are not good because you are gay. They are good because of Mr. Job's relentless pursuit of his vision and all of the hard work all of the employees and contractors at Apple put into them. Yes you did manage to retain the "made in CA" quality while shifting manufacturing to Europe - I will give you that. But guess what? That was your job and I can assure you - you didn't make it happen by assuring your overseas partners of your commitment to being gay.

I am not a homophobe. Neither am I a gullible moron (or so I hope). The whole "proud" and "gift" thing was out of place, unnecessary and quite frankly offensive.

P.S. The 6+ is a piece of shit aimed at market share. It is just a bigger 6 which really provides nothing extra and takes no advantage of the size. Sorry, just had to say it.

Edit: by Europe I meant offshore (was trying to be general and polite there). The other side of the ocean in other words - out of the U.S. Didn't mean to offend anyone or any country.

What apple products are made in Europe?

I edited my post. The other side of the ocean. Namely China. Not knocking China here or any other country. Fact is that to keep cost down "made in CA" became "designed in CA".

I suggest you have a couple of strong drinks and get to bed early tonight.

It all might seem better in the morning, or not?

This thread is closed. It surely doesn't belong here in Community and putting it elsewhere...well, let's just say I don't want to subject anyone else to this absurd topic. Had you made more sense in your initial post I might not have locked it because the topic probably would have progressed much differently and made more sense.
