I was inspired by MostMenAreRuthless's post, so I sent my knife to So-Lo (Randy / solosknifereviews) to be nuked.

Let me say a couple of things about Randy up front. The guy is amazing. He's a guy (as far as I know) doing this out of his house as a side-hobby, but his "customer service" is like that of a great company. I but CS in quotes because it didn't really feel like a customer/business relationship. He's just a normal guy. It seemed more like a buddy that does sweet things that I can't.

For a timeline, I got ahold of him on a Thursday and dropped the knife in the mail last Thursday. It's now Wednesday and I got it in the mail today. That's 6 days from me taping it in a box and opening it in a box—and he quoted 1-2 weeks. That's smoking fast. During that time he answered emails whenever I sent them, and he updated me with pics of the progress along the way. He even put up a video showing what it looked like (click here).

Long rambling aside, he turned this:

I absolutely love this finish. I loved the process, the service, everything. What a fun experience and what a cool knife came out of it.

Huge fan of the nuked finish and the micarta compliments it very well. Awesome Seb you've got there and keep up the great work, Solo!

Robert--I am pumped for you to have this one done! So-Lo is a stud and I agree with your endorsement of him.

I hope you and Fewpop post updated pictures of yours after you have carried and used them awhile.

I saw your knife on YouTube and it is incredible. So-Lo's nuke finish is simply amazing

Lo/Rez, the handles don't feel much different from the stock handles after the roughest bead blasting gets a bit worn in. Actually, that's a good description.

The blade is a lot different. It obviously just sleek anymore. It's smooth. It's not rough at all but it's no longer polished.

Handling it feels pretty much the same.

I would do this in a heartbeat if it didn't void the warranty.

:grumpy:

A word about the warranty on these nuked knives--I sent CRK an email regarding mine and they said it doesn't necessarily automatically void the warranty. They said to send it in and they would analyze it on a case by case basis. It would be cool if someone with a nuked Seb would send theirs in for evaluation.

Awesome nuke finish!! I've been trying to get in touch with him, but he hasn't responded to my email. What's a good way to get a hold of him?

Email. He never got my email via the forums but his direct email was got through. johnsonknives at gmail . com

Very cool,

I've been thinking of doing that to a user small insingo, but it seems like my toy fund always goes to something else. Maybe one day.

Love the knife with the micarta, first one Ive seen. Too bad the screws couldn't have a brass like finish to match the thumb stud. It looks very "Steam Punk".

That would be cool. I actually like the matte finish on the screws as-is, though. I actually just sent something else to Randy to have it nuked. I think this will also be a first. Stay tuned. ;)
