So-Lo Nuked Micarta Insingo.

A word about the warranty on these nuked knives--I sent CRK an email regarding mine and they said it doesn't necessarily automatically void the warranty. They said to send it in and they would analyze it on a case by case basis. It would be cool if someone with a nuked Seb would send theirs in for evaluation.

No way!

Now you've got me thinking...

Heh, wait till you see what's in store next. I am so excited!

You know, I liked the nuked finish so much I thought I needed something to pair it with. So I sent my flashlight off to Randy. And behold!

Sorry for the terrible pic. The colors don't match in the photo but they do in the real world. I have no good light in my office. I'll try and take some better ones later. My only regret is not sending him my keychain bottle opener to complete the theme.

And I said it before, and I'll say it again: Randy is so awesome to work with.

Just got my 25 back from him today and I am every bit as happy as the op. My own thread with pics will be up in a day or two, but let me say that my 25 looks freakin awesome! Congrats RobertK

Thanks guys!!! :D

Always a pleasure to be involved with cool projects !!!!

Use them in good health, and send them in when a refurb is needed :)

What exactly is the process of "nuking" them? Heat? Chemicals? Does it create any pitting? I like it as well.. I'd just like more info if anyone can share.. Thanks.

If you search on Randy's channel (solosknifereviews) on YouTube he shows it a lot. Or search for something like 'nuked sebenza.'

In brief, he completely refurbs the scales, anodizes them, then hand tumbles them. The blade he acid stonewashes. He also blasts all the hard wear, except for the stop pin and all the internals. It's really cosmetic. Nothing that moves or rubs or is a support is touched.

It is awesome. And if nothing else, look at his channel. He's such a nice and helpful guy.

I think he just puts them in a microwave... Just kidding :) to my knowledge, the process is:
-re blast the handles.
-clean/degrease the knife.
-anodize handles bronze.
-heavy stonewash.

For the blades, I believe it's acid wash then stonewash.

I would love to have the scales done on my Seb, I don't think my Basket Weave Damascus blade would handle the treatment. It would be interesting to see what the results would be though.

I know this is way overdue, but you can do just the handles. He doesn't nuke the assembled knife.

For what it's worth, I've changed finishes. I miss the nuked look, but wanted to try one of Randy's other finishes, and only have one knife!

This one is out of my hands, though, as I'm getting the blade bead blasted to (I think) match the new classy handles.

Bead blasted Sebenza now that is where it's at! The Micarta Sebenza's look so good re blasted, much more finished look to the knife.

Looking good! Awesome work on Randy's part. Both the old finish and new one look great on the Insingo.
