So Many Options...

D2 is impressive, only downside is it's prone to rust.
S30V is close by comparison and more rust resistant.
ZDP is the most wear resistant of the three but you may find it difficult to sharpen if you dont have proper tools

doesn't it go something like this in terms of holding an edge?

ZDP-189 > CPM D2 > CPM S30V > D2

Thanks man, Looks like you have put that bench made to good use.

I am thinking that I am going to spring for one of the Benchmades. I am tilting more toward the 940 in S30V. It is a little more costly than the 710, but I think it is worth it to have S30V.

Yes, that knife has seen a lot of use. The picture makes the scratches in the blade stand out a lot more than seeing it in person. They're from cutting pallet straps at work.

I should have mentioned that my 710 is an older model in 154cm. I got the knife in January '06 and I believe the switch to D2 was made in February, so I can't comment much on the current production 710. A friend of mine EDCs a D2 710 and he's been pleased with it for the past several years but I haven't handled it much and don't have a whole lot of experience with D2.

You really can't go wrong with either the 710 or the 940. I really like the blade shape on the 940 and it may actually be a little more pocket friendly than the 710, but both should carry like a much smaller knife.

And for what it's worth, the Endura is a fine knife in any form. If you decide to get one of the Benchmades, it wouldn't set you back too much farther to spring for a FRN, VG-10 Endura just to try it out somewhere down the road.
