So, my wife offered me a deal...

She said that if I could/would stop smoking, completely, by Christmas that she would buy me any Spyderco that I wanted. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, right? But, as much as I love Spyderco... I sure love cigarettes, too. I'll probably give it a try, seeing as I need to quit those coffin-nails, anyways. Also, if this comes through.... what should I get? :D

Hello!

I actually got into knives as a way to reward myself for not smoking. I can open close the knife to keep my hands busy and I have my reward with me at all times. I can look at the knife and think "I like this knife and all the knives I will get to enjoy with my longer life more than smoking"

It really help me quit.

You need to bargain harder with her though! Just one knife? Bah! I spend all the money I would have spent on cigarettes on knives. $200 a month!

Actually I am slowing down now but for a while I was. Now I am spending about $100.

But when I look at my Sebenza and think it's too expensive and nice for me to have. I remember it didn't really cost me a thing!

Good luck, you can do it. Make up your mind that you don't want to do it anymore (for all the reasons you can think of) Do or do not there is no try!

Take your wife up on the offer. Do it for her, kids (if you have any), and yourself. Consider the knife a small bonus.

What Spydercos do you have?

If I had to pick one, it would be the military. I'd be happy with the basic g10 version rather the CF tho. Not picking the most expensive Spyderco might earn ya a few bonus points too.

You can't quit unless you want to... But good luck!

Get a Sage, simply because it's so sexy :D

It really is a win-win. But the most important thing is your health. Do your wife a favor and stop smoking.

Quiting was one of the best things I have ever done.

What Spydie would you pick? My choice would be a CF Military...

Tell her you want a Starmate, or an Ayoob. . .y'know, a hard to find, discontinued model. . .that way, she can experience a frustration similar to your quitting smoking. Marriage is about sharing, right?

But seriously, good luck. . . and I vote Starmate or M. Ayoob!

Hmm... I was thinking either a Superhawk or maybe one of those ZDP Lum's that I've been seeing you guys brag about. :p

OK - this is probably the toughest thing you'll ever do.Give some serious thought to this aspect - kids copy us - seriously - do you want ANYONE ELSE TO SMOKE!
PS - may tobacco exec's rot in hell.

...if this comes through.... what should I get? :D

What's her budget?

What are you looking for? A user or safe-queen?

Do you like big knives, small knives, in between?

Do you want a G10 handle, or will FRN do? Is weight important?

What do you want?

Without knowing your wife's budget and your preferences, I'd vote for either a Sage or a ZDP Lum.

Good luck on quitting the cancer sticks; it'll be tough, but you'll feel a lot better with more energy and a brand new knife :D Your wife and kids will thank you, and you'll thank yourself.

Get a ZDP Lum while they last. Prices will surely go up once they are all sold. While you are at it go ahead and look for a discontinued Lum fixed blade tanto FB03.

If you can't get those go with a ZDP Endura or Delica.

The Civilian is also a cool one to have just for back-up self defense.

Good luck. Hope you manage to stay off the cigarettes. I quit a little over four years ago and can tell you that it's not easy, but it is worth the effort.

As for the knife, my suggestion would be the Stretch II. It is, in my highly prejudiced opinion, :D the best knife Spyderco has ever made.

How about a Divers probe?? Just kidding.
I would ask for a Military S90v, but that is me.

I quit smoking and started dipping. I just quit that a month and a half ago with a similar promise. If i stay clean till Christmas, I can buy a new gun. I'm thinking Mini-14
