So, my wife offered me a deal...

phoenix. rising from the ashes and all that. :p 'sides, they should hopefully be available by then...

I read a book called The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. 2 packs a day for 10 years, i finished the book and haven't smoked since. No scare tactics or crap like that just puts your head in the right place to quit, check it out its easy and really works. And what no love for the CF Caly 3??

Go for it and good luck! That's coming from someone who used to be a two-pack-a-day with Philip Morris!

What Spyderco? If I were in your place, an Endura either with the ZDP blade or with the G10 handle. Anyways, have fun choosing!

EDIT: Hey, someone also mentioned the Phoenix! Not to shabby choice!

Lee--sounds like a great way to kill two birds with one stone. Any excuse to buy a knife, I always say.

As for smoking, I always tell people that they'll eventually quit the way my Dad quit--have a heart-attack-type event. Middle of the night when I was in 9th grade. I'll never forget my mom waking me up to call the ambulance. He turned out to be OK, but his doctor walked into his room the next morning and said, "Quit smoking, start exercising, and lose 30 pounds, or you won't survive the next one."

Dad started that afternoon and did all 3. Ran 5 miles a day rain or shine until his late 60s, and still does bikes and walking now. Healthy at 72.

You can do it.

Good luck with the smoking cessation. If you stay off 'em you'll be paid back in many more ways than "just" a knife.

I should see if my wife will give me a knife for every 10 pounds I lose.:D

Probably not the Firebyrd??

ohh i see what you did there!

that knife (thing) encourages all the bad habits - a lighter for smoking (a variety of things), a bottle opener for you to be a lush, and a knife to slice up little kids. (Wait a minute!!!)

This is a funny topic to me, because I just bought my first Spyderco as a reward for quitting smoking. I figured that i spend about $120 a month on smoking - something like $4 a day, give or take. So spending 70-something on a Delica seems reasonable to me :) it's less money than a month of cigarettes, it's not going to give me cancer, and my dentist won't bitch at me about having a Delica. These are all plusses!

I think it's just replacing one "fix" with another, but to be honest, this "fix" really doesn't strike me as bad.

-James (who put down the Newports and picked up the Delica.)

Take the offer as an extra incentive, but it's YOU that has to want to quit. I was a 3 pack a day Lucky Strike smoker. Early in January of 1971 I set a date to quit of 01/28/71. At 10:30 PM on 01/27/71 I said to myself, "that's close enough". Put the nearly full pack of Luckies in my shirt pocket and carried them around for the next 3 months. Whenever I wanted a cigarette I looked down at that pack and thought, "I'm stronger than you". Never smoked again. The amount of money I've saved in the past 37 years is astronomical, but the big bonus was in my health.

BTW... there are some great Spyderco's out there, depending upon what you are looking for. In the end, it's a personal decision.

It's always great hearing a story like that. Not many people have such an iron will.

speed01;6010114 As for smoking said:
There was a guy on the spyderco.com boards who was certain that his heavy smoking mother was in perfect health and wondered if she would be in danger from quitting. Strange comments ensued.

I quit 6 years ago because I wanted to see my grand daughter grow up. You can do it, but you have to really think of something that is super special to you. Good luck. Later, Bob

Now that i have a son. I've decided to quit smoking too. Maybe i can talk the wife into letting me buy a new gun with the money i save.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Go for it. My votes for a police btw

Way to go bud. I just quit myself. It's been three months. If I was going to reward myself with a new Spydie it would be a Caly 3 w/ CF scales and ZDP blade... but that's only because I just got myself two Lavas. They are such sweet little knives. Get a Caly 3 or a Lava even thought they are on completely opposite sides of the spectrum.

Hi Lee,

Sounds like a good deal to me. I was a heavy smoker for 20 years (3 packs a day). It's a good thing to get off of your back. It's tough to do, prepare for a big fight, but it's "just an urge" that you learn to put off.

You'll be healthier for doing it. You will also gain the confidence to be able to accomplish anything else. Your fam will appreciate your efforts.

I quit smoking this year also. After many times of trying and failing I think it will last this time. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I wish you the best of luck!.

As far as which Spyderco, I do not know what you like. I would hold off on anything and see what Sal, Eric and Company come out with for surprise sprint runs this year. There might be a "have to get" knife that has yet to be announced.

Now that i have a son. I've decided to quit smoking too.

Do it and get your wife to tell your son "Daddy quit smoking for you." My dad quit smoking when I was 2, and my mom would always tell me about it, and I think growing up hearing it taught me will power.

Alot of you guys have said its a win win situation. But honestly its a win, win, win, win..lol. He'll save money from not smoking, he will be healthier, get a free spyder, and his wife will be happy!:)

best of luck!
