So now I have a Military too

Actually I was thinking something like that too, what I've come to notice about Spyderco designs is that things are done and chosen with well defined reason and purpose.

I'm a little too dense with the geometric and three-dimensional thinking right now to have it completely figured out, but would it be correct to presume that as the liner wears and moves toward the other side, the contact point changes too so that the gradual wear is consistent and the lock contact stays good?

Not sure if that made sense even to me.. brain freeze. :D

Yeah, that's about it.

There's a lot more to a liner lock then simply a liner and a slanted tang, I know that much for sure. How it all works together, I have some idea, but nothing concrete.

Congrats on your new Millie! The D2 bladed version is an awesome one and I have beat on mine during outdoor chores and it has held up really, really well.

Sharpening and edge holding are both a notch above S30V too.

Enjoy it!

How is the tip strength on the Military? I've always liked the concept of the Military, but the tip just looks a little weak from the pictures, and I have been known to be a bit abusive of some knife tips in the past -- it has been enough to keep me from buying in the past. Is it a legitimate concern?

I've never broken one, and I know lots of people use them quite hard without any concerns.

I don't think I've ever heard a report of a broken tip on BF. This could be because they recognize that the tip isn't for prying and driving screws or because it's well designed and stronger then it looks. I'm not really sure which. :)

Which of the available steels would give the best and worst tip strength on the Military? Or would it matter at all?

I couldnt wait for the M4 ti g10 mili.....so I just bought a camo/ black blade mili...Great knife. Surprisingly light weight.

Gratz!, I am trying to figure out if I should wait untill Paramilitary 2 comes out just get the Military, hard decision :p

For my first Military i went with the Spyderco Ti-Mil
SP36TIP.jpg

Something about the synergy of S30V, Titanium and a framelock. It's a great combination.

i already have an all black millie and i have an orange millie on order. I'm also thinking of the ones with premium steels.

Well the tip is quite stronger than it looks on the Military, and it is also specially designed to turn into a flat-head should you decide you need it more as a screwdriver than a knife.
