So now I have an opi too!

Today I got out some sandpaper and sat down on a bench in the sun to do some tinkering on my little No.5, and after a nice chat with some less than friendly security guards and a local council officer I went home to continue my project (didn't realise how scary (?) the tiny opi looks to people although I should have expected it I suppose). Anyways, having been followed by security cameras all my way home, I finished the sanding and treated the handle with a few brushes of coffee and a tiny bit of olive oil.

Now that it has dried off I am really happy with the result. A simple mod, but my first, and quite successful I think. How does it look?

(sorry about the poor pictures, got a bit more glare on some than I would have liked)

I need to get a larger model or two in nicer wood.

I have one of the little thin tailed versions in carbon steel. A No.7

Looks great, they are fun to modify.

Congrats on your first, so far the number 8 is my favourite, and gets the sharpest.

Best regard

I think it looks pretty darn good!

Just the right amount of sanding, and stain, but not over done. This is a working cutting tool, so I don't like to go overboard on finish. The way you have it, it looks like a good pocket worn kind of finish. I have to admit I've never thought of coffee and olive oil, but it looks good. I may have to try that in the future.

Yeesh, good thing you weren't wearing one of those sinister hooded sweaters as well, or you may have been sent to gaol! ;)
Security cameras aside, I like the way your Opinel is progressing. Looks comfy and useful! :)

thanks for the feedback guys! have been away for a week so haven't been able too use it much, but can't wait for it too develop a patina.

I just got my first Opinel too - although I figured I may as well buy a few of them, since I know I'm going to want to mod them and am almost certain to screw it up at least once... No pics yet, but I got a No. 2 and No. 4 in beechwood and carbon steel, and two No. 6's (one in beechwood to be my guinea pig, and one in olive to make all pretty.) Now if I can only find the time to play with them...

I love your coffee idea, by the way - I'm a huge coffee drinker myself, so it would definitely be fitting for my knives to drink some too!
