I want to buy one! The problem is, most online stores will only sell them to you if you are military or law enforcement. I have gone back and forth with a few websites trying to tell them it is legal to sell to me but they just don't want to risk it or change their policy. Anybody out there know a website to order autos from? (shipped to Texas)

I just did a search for auto knife retailer in Texas and came up with some places in Houston. Good luck!

There are places locally that sell them, yes. However, I would prefer not getting bent over on the price, and I'd like a wider assortment to choose from. Most of the shops around here just carry S&W junk.

Are any of the websites out there aware that Texas did away with the "switchblade law"?

A more fruitful search would be shopping at knife dealers/retailers. If they sell items like Benchmade, Emerson, ZT, and others then they are very likely to sell automatics. What you consider getting bent over, others consider supporting local business. Interesting perspective you have.

Its a federal law. It really has nothing to do with the state of Texas and their knife laws. See 18 USC 1716. And. 15 USC 1244. I believe it regulates the shipping of auto knives (interstate commerce). Like the other posts state buy locally surely some knife dealer is taking advantage of the law change.

His perspective seems perfectly reasonable to me. I mean sorry, but a Cold Steel Voyager is NOT a $100 knife, and I don't care how local the business is, I'm not paying that much for a knife I can get for $50 online.

I would suggest buying locally. Mainly because you can handle the knife and deploy it before buying it. Different autos have different speeds of deployment and different feels to them. If you can, go somewhere that has a wide selection and try out different knives.

EXACTLY.

RevDevil - you buy all your knives locally? Do you like paying $75 for Spyderco Ladybugs? Hey, I'm all for supporting local businesses, but it has to be reasonable. If they charged reasonable prices, I would buy from them. They do not, so I don't.

Nope, there are no local stores aside from gun shops. They usually only carry Mtech, Boker, Rough rider, Some Case and mostly Becnhmade combo edges. I was looking around the other day for a knife that is available online for around $150, I tried the local shops and nothing. In my browsing, I noticed that many online dealers sell the Ladybug for $65+ now, Enduras are at $90, and the regular Military is at $205. I hear ya though on saving money and prices. You may find that some local shops will sell autos for MAP, like a Microtech Scarab will usually be the same price online as it is in the store, provided the store owner knows what MAP is and sticks to it. I have seen (locally) some Microtech, Protech, and benchmade autos for the same prices online as they are listed for in the brick and mortar store.

Another one to check out is Eknives, they have some Microtech stuff available.
