The hobby thread got me thinking. What do you sit down to when you shut down the grinder or forge? Depending on the mood, I have some mixed preferences.

  • GOOD single malt scotch. Lagavulin. mmmm... smoky like IGs salsa - and then some. Kinda bites back like the relish too. :D
  • Chilean Cabernet - Miguel Torres - Santa Digna
  • ANY cold beer when it's hot or dusty - but I'd probably favour a honey brown if I had the choice.
  • The last choice I haven't had in 25 years. When I was at the Xerox Management school in Leesburg VA, one of the guys brought down a jug of Tennesee White Lightnin' - straight out of his daddy's still - vintage was Thursday. Damn that was good!
Open to new ideas. I've learned a lot from you guys already.

Rob!

I make my own beer and wine. I just bottled 34 bottles of my 2005 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. It's been clarifying and aging on oak since October of 2005. It's very complex and fruity. I'm happy with it. I have it cellared now. It should continue to get better for about 5 years or so.

I also make jewelry boxes and other nice wood projects from time to time. Even some furniture. I don't make the crafty type stuff, but I try to make elegant stuff. I'm hoping once I move, to have a large enough shop to be able to put a wood lathe in and start making some vases and bowls with nice inlays and exotic woods. I have this idea for a vase for a dried flower arrangement with slots in it for an exotic kitchen cutlery set. Maybe an ebony vase with ancient ivory knife handles.

I like my Budweiser and chase it down with some Jose. ;) :D
When I cook some special meals then it's Samuel Adams time or when BBBB Beaver comes over, because he buys it.  .

Not much of a drinker any more. Believe me, I had my days!!! I'm a coffee man now. Dunkin Donuts & Starbuck!

Scott, sounds like some cool ideas. I always wanted to do some furniture. I have a very nice old wood lathe and no room to set it up!! I DO have a 30x65 steel building and land out of town surrounded by 35 acres of woods that my father owns.Hopefully, this years projects will include building my shop!!

I do enjoy a glass of Irish Cream on occasions.

Like Dewey, I favor a good cup of coffee nowadays.

About the only hooch I've drank for the last 30 years has been quality Tennessee and Kentucky whiskeys, straight up. Occasionally Irish Whiskey.

For the one or two times a year we reach for a short snort nowadays, we have a bottle of JD Single Barrel, their best. It'll last us a long, long time.

I always keep a quart jar of peach, apple pie or grape Tenn. shine under the bench. Very smooth, lots of "nose", very soothing in small gulps. Have to keep it away from the forge to prevent flash fires.

I sail with the Captain. But dad makes some potent...ugh kentucky mouth wash:grin: that i partake of on occasion.

Usually, I don't drink, but on my last trip to Bowies hammer-in last fall I was invited to taste the BEST Tennessee " Apple juice" I've ever got to try.....Smooth as silk, no burn, can't wait for our next "invitation".

I have to say the Newfoundland...

Oh crap you said HOOCH not POOCH.:o

Hard likker--Barbancourt 15 YO rum, or most any Anejo Tequila.
Beer (actually Scottish ale)--Belhaven Brewery St Andrew's Ale.

Kerry!!!!!

OK I was introduced to an excellent KY Bourbon a number of years ago by a "bad influence" but good friend, A.T. Barr. "Old Weller Antique 107". Two fingers with ice, additional ice as desired before its gone....It's a great "sipper"and the taste stands up to additional ice real fine...

Gave up on clear liquor and olives a bit ago....too easy to drink too much, but not much taste..except the olives....

Sounds yummy. When I was young and impetuous(as opposed to old and impetuous now) I thought S. Comfort was yummy till I took a 5th to a det. party when I was stationed in Greece. After I woke up talking to someone that said I had been carrying on an incoherant conversation with them for a half hour, it signaled to me that I had a problem. I should have only taken a pint.:D I learned a bunch while I was in the Air Force and some of it was good.

These days an occasional Marqarita with Jose Quervo Gold is my fav.

so how much did you drink the day you made your avatar? that must have been one hell of a er bill :>
