Andy describes the Bushfinger as our "signature model". Everyone needs at least one:)

IMG_20161031_173023_zpsy27fo7lo.jpg

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I read this somewhere here
"One is none and two is one "
I think I need one more bush knife

:D

Superfine, Vance! I hope to see a Bushfinger in person someday, to understand the model Andy considers his signature.

At the same time, I don't foresee adding one of the __ Bush__ knives myself, primarily because I don't want to go out on a limb for a custom knife I won't carry and use. Barring a crash course in "You & Your Backyard" that compels me to look hard at a custom bushcraft knife, I'll be sticking to patterns that [I sense will] more clearly fit into my life as I live it.

(I already have Mr. Ugly, my LTKW Bushcrafter HC, for the general backyard banging around I do-- the top knife here:)

Even more, trying to understand the many Fiddleback bushcrafter pattern variations and the differences between them quickly becomes more frustrating than fun, running me straight into the Paradox of Choice and analysis paralysis. Even with the heroic efforts of other enthusiasts to provide pictures and descriptions, I don't feel I have enough information on which to make a peaceful decision. That could all change should I ever have the opportunity to see and compare some of the models in person.

Rick Lowe did a fantastic job on this sheath for me. The BSS is definitely my favorite fixed blade.

You have a whole lot of very great things going on in this picture! :) I am really enjoying my own Rick Lowe (cross-draw) sheaths.

Uhm, what does "BSS" stand for? :o

That new WLST fits right in with the others P
Andy puts some nice wood handles on some of his knives too.
Here is another favorite of mine this one is the KE Bushie with a black ash burl handle
KEB%2001.jpg

I could stare at the handle on your knife all day.

As I wrote earlier in this thread, natural woods are a default preference for me. It will be interesting to see if/when the 'right' wood wins out over Shadetree; I've learned that I do best when I dance with what brung me, and don't branch out on the strength of good ideas or a fear of missing out on something (else) good.

Good night, that's fine, knife and composition and everything! Thanks for posting it here.

... Shank?

Hi Sarah(hope I got that right, you sold me the TC Ancient in Ebony about a month ago)

Thanks very much by the way.
BSS = Bourbon Street Skinner. Rick mentioned it was one of his favorite Fiddleback designs and he felt it was somewhat underrated in terms of popularity. I love this knife. It's my favorite fixed blade by far. [emoji106]

Sooo...it's all your fault/s! My first Fiddleback. I know it's a mid tech "production" knife. Bushfinger. I dig it. I REALLY like the size. I have a custom Osprey Ranger being built. I just wanted a Fiddleback and QUICK, so I got this one under $200. Good deal?

Pertinux-I have seen some blue quilted maple handles floating around, keep an eye out for them, you might enjoy the pattern in the wood.
T-Sequoia-if/when I get one my first may be a production too. Like the steel, several models with differently configured handle styles, and the prices. Looks awesome to me, and sounds like a good price.
Varga49-that "peasant " style wrap is awesome! Lycosa described it in another post, and explained that it was a traditional Japanese style of cord wrap. Not seen much. Plus those all had good price points iirc. Sweet stuff all!
Thanks, Neal

Aha! Thanks for the identifying information. A very unique look (to my eyes), with what appears to be a very comfortable handle.

Very good deal, that you are getting into these knives. :D We aren't allowed to talk prices here, but from what I can see the production Bushfingers represent a tremendous value across the board, and you acquired yours... well. I look forward to seeing your Osprey Ranger. :)

Say, I like the rustic look of that one. That's leather slabs wrapped with something-something (hemp?). Yes?

Happy Thanksgiving

The same to you and yours. Looka that... bushsomething. Okay, so I'm not getting better at this.... :o

Yes! I've seen quilted maple, and box elder and other burled woods... which they continue to make:

My, oh my.

But, I am still more immediately moved by the dimensionality in the various Shadetree burlaps. Someone has sent me a Hiking Buddy to try, and I keep getting lost in its (actual-) Coffee Bag burlap.

I'm also finding a silver lining in the turn towards colder weather: the extra layers required to keep my bones warm make it easier/possible to wear my Esquire at my belt more often at work vs. in my pocket.

[My pocket sheaths are Way Cool®, but the cross-draw sheath keeps my knife accessible, frees up my pocket, and is more comfortable-- I forget it's there, to the point that I go looking for the knife, thinking I've put it down somewhere!]

I love how the sheath and knife handle are becoming burnished as I carry and use them:

Yes ma'am it's hemp cordage wrapped over leather and coated with some form of epoxy maybe. (Phillip knows for sure). I carry this one more than anything else so far. I found this sheath at the local feed store for next to nothing. It's so light and unobtrusive I almost forget it's there.

Ooooh-- I like that sheath design.

You're killing me smalls!

Hahaha
I watched the Sandlot or something like that for the first time Thursday

As if "... or something like that" makes any sense at all, if one is trying to place the quotation! :D

Meanwhile, I wrote, and I mean(t), of dyed wood vs. burlap micarta on these knives:
....I am still more immediately moved by the dimensionality in the various Shadetree burlaps.

But having seen this?!

I cannot pretend that I wouldn't throw it all over for that wood, if and when it should ever appear on a pattern I want. :o

;)

In real life, with the knives I already have, I continue to work out the "carry" in EDC:
