So...there's a new Star Trek movie.

The way I heard it the Romulan comes back and time and destroys some ship which changes the timeline so that is why the Enterprise looks different and Captain Pike is in Command with Kirk as first Officer

Those rascally Romulans...always causing trouble.

I'm not a big Star Trek fan, more of a Star Wars geek here. JJ Abrams said he made this movie with more of a Star Wars feel to it. I'll go to see it. I've always liked the Captain Pike stories, grew up on TNG myself. I liked the Klingons and the Borg, never cared for the Romulans. The trailers I've seen make it look like a good one though.

Looking forward to this. I was a huge fan of the original series, then when the Next Generation came out, I lost interest in these newer series.

It will be hard not seeing a young Shatner as Kirk, etc. I'm hesitate to watch stuff like this since it usually falls short of my expectations. Maybe I'll be surprised.

If that's true it's just lame. Want to change the original canon? Well by goodness just throw some time travel in to change the timeline. What's the deal with doing yet another prequal anyway? Why not move the franchise forward instead of back?

Sorry, feeling a bit grumpy about people coming along to mess with a classic franchise after its creator is no longer around to protest.

(Yeah I think they screwed up Mission Impossible too).:grumpy:

In so many ways! :thumbdn: I also liked the Next Gen. series back in the late 80's/early 90's.

I hear they're also gonna reboot the "Karate Kid", possibly with Jacky Chan and Will Smith's son, Jaden!?!!

I'm effing grumpy as well today!

Been watching Star Trek since the original series in the 1960's and hope to see the new film when it comes out on dvd.

The whole idea of the original Star Trek was that it wasn't the same thing twice. They used a few classic science fiction stories, too, without worrying how they fit into a "canon".

Taking the one crew/ship/universe as background for the series stories worked fine before they felt they had to invent backstories for everything and pseudo-scientific explanations for the gear.

I don't mind the followup series, I really liked Deep Space Nine a lot, but I liked it better when Kirk was young and wild and Bones could say things like "I'm so good I think I could cure a rainy day."

When producers go back to the past it means it will be intellectually insulting but have flashy new special effects. Some evil doer going back to change history has probably been done 5 times in the Star Trek universe. They have created nearly two galaxies of races. Are you telling me rehashing old material is the only way they can tell a story.

Some of the best was the series few saw with Scott Bakula. Humans were always just a few star ships away from total annihilation. Great stuff.

Then of course there is the trial that never happened with Picard. He should be locked away Khan style for costing the Federation most of their fleet vs. the Borg. He could have stopped them but didn't.

I'm looking forward to the new Star Trek movie ....I'm an old original "trekkie" :D

beam me up Scotty!:D

Interestingly enough James Doohan was with the Canadian forces at D-day and lost a finger in the encounter. They always covered it up on screen.

I'm also an old Kirk and Spock man, but the previews on this one look good. I caught the guy who will be playing Kirk, Chris Pine, in a movie I rented last night called Bottle Shock (about the establishment of the CA vineyards vs the French in the mid-1970's). Based on Bottle Shock, I think he'll bring it off.

By the way, BShock also has Alan Rickman and Dennis Farina in it and I don't recall ever seeing either of them give a performance I didn't like - even if I didn't like the movie.

Can't wait for this overdue ST reboot with some fresh actors and new ideas.

Canon? Who cares? It's going to be the most non-geekish ST since the original series.

There's a huge rumor floating around that some of the Next Generation characters will make an appearance in the new movie, apparently to tie the story line together.
