Light batoning.
Honestly, I do tons of hunting in central Ohio where we have TONS of underbrush. The BK9 helps me get through this (machete like) when noise isn't a huge concern - when I'm fetching a deer I've already killed, etc. It's also great for removing saplings and limbs that are in the way of my ambush sites and it's outstanding for building ad hoc blinds and so forth.
We have quite a bit more vegetation here than the bits of AZ I've been blessed to visit. Lovely state but you seem to lack stuff to chop.

It's fairly lush here. These are my kids leading the way in an early season hunt last year.
This picture shows a fair bit of brush between me and the doe I killed last year. The BK9 helps me get through yuck like this and helps me get my deer back out. The doe is visible in the pic, barely.
Additionally, with somewhat harsh winters, we have lots of limbs, trees, etc. down over our various trails. Most of the areas I hunt are crisscrossed by horse trails. Here's my BK9 helping me clean one of them up.
Face it - big knives are just plain fun.
