So what are your general knife laws?

Daggers, stilettos, dirks, ballistic knives, double edged knives and switchblades may be possessed but not carried on one's person or in a motor vehicle. This part of the law protects collectors. Gravity knives are not mentioned under MA state laws. Blade length is not addressed at the state level either. Local ordinances in at least eight MA cities limit blade length to 2.5" maximum for any knife carried on one's person in public.

With the new law that was signed in June where I live, a knife has a blade length of at least 5 inches. There is also no mentioning of autos or balis.

I guess the lawmakers realized that when they made gun laws more clear that a knife shouldn't be heavily regulated.

I'm still not clear on the laws in GA. As it was reported on the local news, you need a weapons permit (also new. previously it was a firearms permit. I'm not sure I'm thrilled with knives being automatically classified as weapons, though) to carry a knife with a blade over 5 inches. Under that, I guess it doesn't matter???

I'm in Alabama, only knife law here is you can't have a concealed fixed blade on you. I really like it here.

I own retirement property in Alabama (Fairhope; eastern shore of Mobile bay) and will be moving there within 5 years. I guess a 4" folding knife (my EDC for many years) is legal to carry concealed in Alabama?

Yep, the law specifically sates that all folding knives that can fit in a pocket are legal.

In Florida, any folding knife you want, concealed. Any fixed blade you want carried open. Get a CWP and you can carry any knife anyway you want to.

not exactly. the statute leaves ALOT open to interpretation. it says that ANY knife other than "a common pocket knife" is considered a weapon. concealing a non-firearm weapon, in FL (without a permit), is a misdemeanor. concealing a firearm, in FL (without a permit), is a felony.

so, if someone's knife is concealed AND they don't have a permit, they better hope it can be considered "a common pocket knife" most of the OHO's are consider (by most LEO's) to be "a common pocket knife" i wouldn't push it with the auto's or bali's though.

Well since they let anyone with a pulse carry concealed handguns here (Tucson, Arizona) with no permit or registration required, I can't believe they restrict knives in any way. I do know we carry machetes sometimes when needed for a job and never had any trouble with that.
;)

you can own but not carry switchblade, gravity knife, and balisong.
A/O has recently been defined as NOT a switchblade.
concealed carry of 4" blade or less on folders, no concealed carry of fixed blades.
fixed blades up to 6" can be carried openly.

if hunting, there is no "reasonable" limit on concealed fixed blades. to my knowledge it is not defined further -- but at least this way you can zip up your coat and don't have to belt your hunting knife on over the coat.

Knife laws aren't too bad here provided you stay out of the LA area.
No bali's or autos over 2"
No gravity knives (common sense interpretation, not NYC)
No limit on folders provided they're carried folded (open is considered a fixed blade)
Fixed blades cannot be carried concealed upon a person. This has historically been interpreted as concealed and readily accessible, but I haven't checked recently. So under a jacket is prohibited, but buried in a backpack is OK.
No oddball ballistic knives, discuised knives, undetectable knives (e.g. cia letter opener), etc.

I'm sure there's more then this, but these are the main ones in Canada that I know of.

No auto's, no balisongs(falls under the "centrifugal opening" category, not banned by name), no two edge dagger type knives(double edged knives aren't at all banned), no carrying knives for self defense purpose, Must be for utility. Other then that it's fair game.

Also, no ring knives, no knives with steel knuckle guards, no belt buckle knives, or any knife that can be opened with "centrifugal force".
There are no blade length laws and you can carry fixed blades and folders concealed.
