It seems we've been taken over by these outside, and they are starting to get inside the house.

What is it?

Thanks!

We have them in Ohio also. I thought they were from the stink bug family. Looks like they like conifer trees.

Got em out here in Oregon too. Not sure why, but recently there have been a large number of them around the house. Might be mating season or something.

Stink bugs... Don't pick them up. You'll hear a faint *hiss*, followed by a bad smell. :p

The ones in my area are dark with orange lines and dots, instead of tan/coyote brown.

Run! Attack of the Stinkers!! ....I can't stand those things..one flew in my mouth the other day..you all think they SMELL bad? Try tasting one...

Stink bug!

They're invading upstate NY, too. I just saw a national news story about a town somewhere in the Northeast (PA?) that is completely infested with them. They are a recent immigrant from Japan, according to the article.

Stay sharp,

I would know it as an assasin bug. To my thinking, the true stinkbug is brown and more squarish as seen on the site you linked.

As posted above - not a stinkbug, it's a leaf footed bug -

They do have an odor -

OP's bug -

Western conifer seed bugs spend the winter as adults and often find their way indoors where their loud buzzing sound when flying attracts attention. When crunched flat, they have a distinctive, musky, evergreen-turpentine odor. They have been called many things, but rarely by the correct name. They are often confused with squash bugs and assassin bugs, as well as the brown marmorated stink bug.
