So What bug is this?

Whatever they are, they have been getting inside my house. As others have said, they exude an odor.
The wifey hates 'em!

So many bug species with only miniscule differences... Seems like they could all be combined into a single species and simplify the whole mess. ;)

There were similar bugs, which I thought were Asian Stinkbugs, at a job site in West Virginia. The filled the cab of the pickup, and survived for many, many weeks afterwards. They seemed like nice bugs, until you squooshed one... and then blechhh! Not only did they stink but caused a small rash as well. And that's why whenever one would come to life in the truck, I'd roll down the window and let it out rather than killing it. From one side of the United States to the other. Hope I'm not the Typhoid Mary of Asian Stinkbugs.

Box elder bug. My dad has them in spades. They're attracted to the warmth of your house and I've noticed they especially like the color white. I walked up to his house once with a white shirt on and they started shooting at me. Got some good kung fu practice in. I haven't noticed any odor but then...I don't crush/kill them either. Is the odor after you kill one? Maybe just take them outside if you can. They'll go right back to your house but they're usually content on the outside wall IME. My dad literally has thousands on his house at certain times a year but only a handful make it in.

Edit: Not a stink bug.

Boxelder bugs have the red. We often have those indoors in the winter. Never known them to smell though.

We have another stink bug that looks like the boxelder, no red and more tan-ish in color. They smell horrible, even if you just touch them. It's like an oil that doesn't wash off.

I'm almost certain the bugs I encountered in West Virginia were the brown marmorated stink bug (aka Asian stinkbug). They were quite friendly and didn't smell at all unless squished.

I can see now that the OP's bug is not one of these.

For anyone who has bugs like boxelders buzzing around the house you can set up a simple trap using a half dome worklight with a clamp or a chicken brooder lamp. Take the lamp and fix it so it is three inches above a wide pan of soapy water. Leave this set overnight and the bugs fly around in the brightness and will eventually hit the water and die. Non toxic and also works with the asian lady beetles. You can get them killed by the hundreds.

I'm sorry... But I laughed. :p

I can imagine how bad they taste.

Well, you would have rolled on the ground laughing if you had been there. They taste about the same as they smell..awful. I crunched it by reflex..it was..crunchy..then squishy..then gagging and retching..oh they taste like rotten eggs mixed with fresh cow poop. Lady bugs emit a stink too..had one of those fly in my mouth once..very bitter.
