SpecSpeed Bump? I had no idea there was such an animal. Another reason I like Kershaw as it will be a life long quest to have them all!

If I remember right Thomas said that was the 1st production knife made by any company to use CPM 154.

I have a newer one with s30v. Great looking knife, but I have never warmed up to the stud lock. Too hard to close one handed.

We or I refer to spec and speedbumps as the same knife often, Spec have a safety, and are numbered 1596.

I agree the stud lock is a little different but I'm getting accustomed to it as I now have several Kershaws with one. And according to an old post by Ken Onion, it's the strongest lock they have made. All of my stud locks are rare pieces though so I doubt I'll ever get the chance to really test it out.

I find them very easy to use with one handed operations, I can close my bump way faster than any of my other blades. Safer too, one handed you have to push a frame lock and apply spine pressure with the blade coming towards your hand. Not that way with the stud lock.

The SpecSpeed Bump was a distinct model. The label on the box indicated -

"SPEC BUMP
1596SVBL
Polished G10
Handle"

It had the same polished, parallel grooved G-10 handle as the original first run Spec Bumps. The blade had the uncoated beadblast finish and was marked S30V, but was actually Sandvik 13C26 like the Speed Bumps.
It had the safety on it. As far as I know they all had safeties up through the 1596SW. The 1595G10 Speed Bumps were the first ones I noticed to not have the safeties (other than the frame-lock Ti Bumps).
The idea was to have the more expensive G-10 handles with the less expensive blade.

Not sure if the SpecSpeed name was official or if it was just coined because it was a cross between the two models.
