So what do you guys...

I HATE crowds, but Blade is still the best!

Jon got drunked up by JParanee who scored a Jason Knight damascus bowie a short while ago.

Go Joe!

Last year around this time I was in line to get into the show and although I hate lines I hate it even more not being in one right now:D;)

One of my friends has promised to send me pics during the show. If that comes through I will be posting them here.

Shall we play a game and try to guess who will take home the George Peck Award and the B. R. Hughes Award.

I'll start and predict that Kyle Royer will take the Peck Award and Rodrigo Sfreddo the Hughes Award.

Anyone else??

All I know is when you've got Bastid, Ren, and Gig at the same place at the same time there's bound to be trouble.....and not just with the goats. :D

I have always liked the smaller venues as well, but I want to take in blade once in my lifetime. I'm driving to Josh's. It takes about 11 hours, but only costs about a hundred bucks in gas each way.

I will be at Josh's Big Sky County Conference when it is open to the public. When I was first trying to evaluate where I wanted to go in collecting he was nice enough to invite me to the private show but I'm ashamed to say that I never got back to him for a couple of reasons. One was that I felt I may be in the way and taking up space that could be used by a collector with the means to purchase from some of the makers there, the other reason being that I was a little intimidated to meet Josh and the other attendees. :o I'll think I'll go write him a thank-you note now as it was an incredibly generous offer for him to make.

As for knives I am waiting for I have a knife from Matthew Bailey in the works.

I suppose you could all discuss how sorry you are for me being over here on the other side of the planet and not able to get to blade.

:)

I had planned to attend the Blade Show this year for the first time. I made my hotel reservations months ago. But looking at my bank account, I just couldn't justify the air fare, hotel cost, and buying a bunch of knives. <sigh>

I will, however, be going to the NASCAR race in Dover this Sunday, so the weekend will not be a total loss. And maybe tomorrow I'll take some of my knives out and play with them or go to the range and punch holes in paper from a distance.

Lorien, I put a gang of pics on Indian Georges hammer in thread. There was about 40 people there that day. It sure was a great experience.

I'll get plenty of pics of Me and Jr grinding at Jim Siska's tomorrow for sure.

I plan on one day making it out to Indian George's hammer-in. He is someone that I really want to meet.

Those photos should be really interesting.

Looks like you get about 22MPG;)

I get more than that, but gas costs a lot more in Canada than it does in the US.

How about we talk about Hartsfield??

Not me.

Keith,
Taking the opportunity, i would like to hear your thoughts on the "psychology" of knives, and knife collecting. :)
No kidding..

My thoughts are the more esoteric, and deluged knives become in matters as an "art form", the further they stray away from a point of sensibility, a practical form / craft.

..look forward to hearing your thoughts.
David

Ps. I'll be at Blade tomorrrow morn, if you want an errand run. or hello sent.

If all knives were moving in that direction you would be right, but there are so many makers that continue to make basic, functional knives that I don't think there is any danger of the craft being lost, or even diluted in a meaningful way.

Say hi for me to everyone you meet that hangs around this place.

tee hee? WTF? didn't know you had it in you STeven to even make that sound ! :p

Meant to be dainty like and all....this is DAVID we are talking about...he is a sensitive lad:eek:

I usually say tee hee after destroying a hotel room or some such, doing the Dr. Evil finger thing.:D

Best Regards,

George, on a completely different note. Is that a Wolfsspitz/Keeshond in your avatar??

I just breached the door at Blade- room is full. looks like a good show. i just passed kevin jones outside, will say hi to him after a walk around.. just passing tables Jay Hendrickson, AG Barnes, Harvey Dean, John White- he has 5 knives on table- look amazing! more later.. i see Ed showing up..

Steven, will see you next year.. you have a beating in store! ;)
David

This is sounding real familiar. My thoughts just included Bill Moran right next to Jay Hendrickson, God rest his sole. John White has made it to the front of the room it sounds like. Keep em coming.
