So what does Sal carry?

Now if I got paid do both activities you mention above, in a safe fashion of course, than I would be the happiest man alive. Sammy & Spydercos are a beautiful thing :D

Lol. Give us some trainer versions of spydies and a few samuel jacksons' and we'll be all set.

Usually protos or frist producton runs. Today I'm carrying a Stretch2 in midnight sky blue FRN with ZDP-189 full flat blade. They just came in today.

I usually have a Ladybug with me as well.

Hey Sal, is this a hint hint that the ZDP FRN Stretch is hitting the dealers soon?

He said in another thread that they were shipping to the dealers next week, along with the H-1 Spyderhawks.

Today I'm carrying a prototype UK Pen Knife in Maroon FRN plain edge leaf blade. 50.3 gms - 1.77 oz.

Sal, have you ever carried prototypes that haven't seen production?

If so, would you ever tell us what they were?

Hi D1omedes,

I've carried many that for one reason or another never went into production.

The development of a model, requires focus and is time consuming. Selection of a collaboration design is the same. Refinement and engineering bring new challenges, and then tooling increases the investment.

Deciding what models our customers will enjoy and appreciate is not a simple choice of "what do I like?". Some designs are ahead of their time, or behind the curve. Some have a very small market and we cannot regain our tooling. Some designs we decide need a lot of improvement and our design, development and engineering time is not unlimited.

For that reason, thee are many prototypes sitting around in drawers that might be considered in the future.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot, Sal. It was just something that has been spinning in my head recently. :D

R&D is a laborious process but must also be a lot of fun. I have no doubt you and the employees of Spyderco bust your butts to produce the best knives you can. Although a newcomer to knife collecting, I still appreciate your craftsmanship, integrity and creativity.
