So What is a good wallet?

Actually, you might get a piece of the kitchen sink in there, but it's not much good at holding cards. I had so many cards in each slot, they were too tight to access easily. There was a huge amount of space, in the bill compartment for example, that was wasted. And I didn't like the way the bill compartment was oriented. Also, the tiny zippered area was too small and inconveniently located for small change. The whole wallet was way too large for what I had for it to carry.

I agree T.H.E. wallet is quite large. It is fine for uniform wear and the external ID holder is for going through check points, but for civvies it sucks. I have seen they make a smaller version but have yet to put hands on it. Probably won't now that the doc said to lay off putting things in my back pocket. I have been really happy with my front pocket wallet, it holds a few cards and the money clips to the with a sturdy metal clip. T.H.E. wallet is also nice for travel, I just tie on some 550 cord and hang it around my neck. Plenty of room for my passport and credentials.

yes indeed.

SpecOps THE Wallet Jr. It's a little thick, but it'll hold a lot of stuff. I like it because it's tough as hell, has a clear window pocket on the outside for my bus/light-rail passes (so I don't have to open the wallet itself), and the thickness of it reassures me it's still in my pocket. Just to clarify, I have THE Wallet Jr., which is much smaller then the aforementioned THE Wallet (which supposedly holds a passport, among other things) - which I carry in my front pocket with a SAK - proof that it's not that bulky/large.

I vote T.H.E. wallet. I have overloaded mine for a year now with no ill effects. I do usually wear a vest, but there is a belt carry option for T.H.E. wallet as well. It is a little awkward at first. I have a swiss card lite, kershaw light my fire, ear plugs, lots of cards, four oz. silver, card cutlery knife and fork, starflash signal mirror, survival cards, room to spare. Yeah, it's big (Holds Everything), but beats a man purse.

Take a look at the Bison leather wallet from Orvis. I've had mine for three years now and it is getting a nice aged patina.

Bill Gates wallet is good.

Ha Ha Ha! Gotta concur wholeheartedly on that one buddy.

I have tried many different wallets and found the longest lasting and least bulky are nylon. The weak link is the stitching so I bartack them at all four corners; Top and bottom at the fold; at the entrances to all compartments. This way they seem to last forever.

In my case, bifold wallets seem to work best. I was using a North Face model about five years ago but swiched to a Swiss Army for the design. I had to remove all the fancy faux leather trimming to get rid of useless bulk, did the bartacking and have been using it 5 years now. A little soiled but probably good for a lifetime.

I wanted a bigger, cordura version of a mission wallet with some added features, so I had these made. The work very well for my need.

I got my new T.H.E. Wallet yesterday. That was fast FREE shipping to Hawaii from an eBay seller. I must admit it is larger than I thought it would be (thicker and larger than expected) but it will do for my new EDC wallet. I don't have many cards that I carry which is good and I like the large currency pocket. We'll see how it goes in the coming days how it all works out.

They look very nice. Can you share your source for them? Would they be interesting in making several more?

Nice magazine, BTW! :)

Thank you.

A little fancy but subtle, my wife got me a Coach wallet a few years ago. It's a little pricey, and the next wallet I buy will be half the price, but it's sweet. The leather is top notch, and so is the construction.

If you want a really nice leather wallet, I would recommend one.

I bought a DA Kine wallet and it was total cr*p fell apart and was poorly designed. When I was younger and skateboarded or biked everywhere I wore a backpack. Now that I am older and drive I was still carrying around a backpack
that was really superfluos so I broke down and got myself a man purse.
It is a tactical manperse so it is OK and canadian army issue to boot.
The canadian version of the buttbag is perfect to carry my wallet ,Ipod
keys(3 different remotes) multitool, maglight , pen and gloves and even a book. Companies like maxpedition and eagle make them but if you don't need molle webbing on your murse get a surplus one. The US army has the same type of bag but I don't know if it comes with a retractable purse strap like the canadian one does.

Have been using an all leather "George" wallet from Walmart for the last 6 months---on clearance for $5---its a very good wallet----even better factoring in the cheap price.

I stick with the classics. Dooney and Bourke. Prior, a Filson, but the leather cut out of the center (twill, I think) bothered me and soaked up the leather conditioner I put on it. I'd get the 100% leather wallet though from them.
