And being beautiful never hurts if we are going to be honest.

BTW, anybody else ready to tell Photobucket to piss up a rope? My gawd that site is a flashbuggyPOS.

What are they good for...ahh everything. I love tanto blades, seriously i do. My Benchmade 905 SBT Stryker has been my in my EDC rotation for years longer than any other. Don't get me wrong, clip ponts, drop points, etc all have a their place, but the tanto & American tanto are just plain sexy.

And mall ninjas rule. Somebody has to guard the secret recipes of Cinnabon & Orange Julius ;)

Way back in the early 80's , Cold Steel tantos were hot sick exotic knife bling ! I spent way too much on a Voyager , a Carbon V Recon Tanto and a San Mai Master Tanto .

And so, by the power of Murphy's Reverse Law , I've not been attacked by armored adversaries (well there was that one time ,but they never got into tanto range) nor found myself wanting for a seppuku blade !

you mean the American tanto tip?
idk so I just reground mine :-)

I find my recon 1 very useful for opening boxes and scraping. I think the cold steel tanto is the most practical because it has almost the same functionality of a John Graham razel but it doesn't lack a tip for piercing. I would also like to point out that I hate all of the Chinese mall ninja junk that is so popular now, and the "tacticool" crap. I know the recon 1 is marketed that way but I find it to be a very useful, safe, and ergonomic tool.

I like the blade style, but I carry knives as backup weapons and not utility tools.

I find the term "american tanto" to be kind of funny as well. Sure, most real tantos were hira-zukuri blade shape but the "american tanto" is very similar to a blade shape that far predates Katanas/Tachis called kiriha-zukuri. Sometimes they could be "chisel ground" as well, something that seems to get poo-poo'd a lot here also.

The Stryker auto had a Tanto point and was authorized for military purchase, so some in the military community find it a useful blade shape. I use mine for urban EDC and it does what I need. Great auto, Elisewitz design, with an awesome grind.

Officer's Match, or anyone that knows -

Does that chisel grind have any type of secondary/edge/micro bevel? Or do you sharpen it by holding the primary grind flat on the abrasive surface? So the bevel holds the correct sharpening angle and the bevel follows one angle all the way to the edge apex?

If so, does it make sharpening a really dull blade take a long time since there is so much surface area to be 'refined'?

Also, do you think the blade would be more practical or useful if the bevel was on the other side of the blade? Assuming you are right handed? Seems like it would be a lot more useful if the bevel was on the right hand side of the blade assuming you're right handed.
