So, what is going to be in your collection?

Holly cow! I hope they don't all come in the same month...

That's the scary thing about having a lot of orders for sure. :eek:I generally ask for a 30-day heads up, or at least confirmation before work starts to firm up any details - that way I at least have a bit of lead time to deal with delivery overlap.

peter, you are crazy :D

i am expecting:

mathias maresch (d): guardless damascus hunter, fossil whale jawbone, next weekend

russ andrews: stag handled camp knife, damascus fittings, called "The Bison", next spring

jd smith: damascus hunter, sooner or later

burt foster: to be defined, next year (?)

jimmy fikes: i haven't given up hope. when i dream of knives, i dream of jungle honeys. don't let things get you down, old grouch!

regards,
hans

I an sure that a few people may be schocked to see two stock removal makers (Brown & Young) on my list. Some of these orders are four years old, so semi-realistically I hope to actually have most of these knives delivered over the course of the next two years. Patience is a virtue that must be cultivated, if you are going to collect custom knives and maintain your sanity.

I think STeven put it well, my pending requests ;) are:

Andrews x3
Brown x2
Cashen
Dean x2
Farr
Fisk
Foster x3
Fuegen
Hancock
Hanson x2
Knight x3
Lamey
McIntosh
McIntyre x2
Neely
Newton
Rhea x2
Ruth
Wheeler x3
White
Young x2

WOW! 35 KNIVES on order.

I would hate to have to fill your Xmas list. ;):D:D

peter, you are crazy.

hans

Hans, you and my wife are in complete agreement.

As a practical matter it is not quite as crazy as it seems. I usually sell a knife from my collection to help pay for the new arrival. I also do request a 30-60 day warning from the maker prior to delivery, which gives me a clue about where I stand. It really is the only way to hopefully improve my collection. I talk to the makers periodically, just to let them know that I am still alive and interested.

I have also learned, over time, that it is almost pointless and probably counter productive to pester makers with delivery schedules and requests. These guys are highly in demand and in my view the best of the best. It will be ready, when it is ready. Why get aggravated? This is supposed to be enjoyable. If "X" is late, "Y" will be early. It really works rather smoothly.

I completely agree with you, Peter, although I don't have so many knives on order. Not only is art not something that can't be rushed but there are also others waiting in queue. Even though I sometimes wonder when the heck my knife will be ready, the anticipation adds to the joy once the product is delivered, if all turns out as planned.

I'm waiting on a couple of Howard Clark blades to be finished that are eating up my budget, but I'm also always on the lookout for Ed Fowler and Ed Schempp blades. Don Fogg is probably my highest priority right now but I always seem to be too slow on the draw.

I'm waiting on a Bill Burke camp knife that should be partially completed soon, I hope to add the handle myself. I hope it turns out okay but this knifemaking business is pretty tough...

I have found that to be a good thing, having snagged a few from Peter myself.

I'm pretty small potatoes compared to most of you guys,
have a little boot/fighter coming from Matt Roberts,he has the blade done, ground and HT'ed,guard rough fitted and he's cutting the handle wood tonight and gonna' send some pics.
One on order from Lin Rhea and one from DH III.:thumbup:
Edited to add:Get a couple a year from Shiva as well, wasn't gonna' mention it but I like his stuff and don't feel the need to try and apologize for him anymore. :)
