Sal,

What new products were shown at the Shot Show and when can we expect to see them?

Thanks!

Hi David - for starters, the new Bob Terzuola design, the C55 Starmate, should be out within the next month or two. Essentially, the C55 is a production version of Bob's custom Century Starfighter folder. Built in Spyderco's Golden, Colorado production facility, the Starmate features a 440V blade (plain or 60/40), G-10 handles, nested stainless steel liner lock, Torx screws all the way around, and a massive 5/32" blade stock. Those of you who are familiar with the C36 Military model, the Starmate is built in the same manner! Of all the knives that Spyderco is going to bring out this year, the C55 Starmate is shaping up to be a personal favorite of mine.

What about the Chinese folder with rolling lock IN CPM440V?

THAT WOULD BE COOOOOL!

Sal,

Can we expect pics soon on the Spyderco page of the new knives in production?

Jack

Sal,

If you go with 440V and the rolling lock on the Lum it looks like I will be buying about a half dozen new Spyderco's this year. I was also curious about two C36's I sent in. Have those been recieved yet? I sent them about 3 weeks ago or so.

Regards,

Tom Carey

Ralf - The chinese Folder would more than likely be ATS-55.

Jack - Pics are going on line as fast as possible on initial delivery. Many changes occurring on the Spyderco site lately. Just got the collaboration story on. Just got the dealer list on. Will be refining and improving contantly. We are also open to any comments and suggestions.

Tom - Regarding 440V, this is a very sophisticated steel and very difficult to work with. Out Golden facility is currently producing the Military and Starmate in this material. We are learning a great deal, but being the first factory to attempt this, we are still cutting new trails. The Golden facility has a limited production capacity. As we learn more about it, we will share this information with our Seki makers. They are excellent in their skill, but there are new "tricks", wheels, grind speeds and heat treatment of this material that is quite different from ingot steels. regarding the C36's sent in, sorry, not my dept. However, they are quite caring and I'm sure they'll take good care of you.

Sal, is there a chance of the large Dyad making it out for sale this year ? Do you have any idea of blade steel and handle composition ?
Thanks, Brian

Brian - Yes, The full size Dyad will be out this year, probably late summer or early fall. Blade steel will be ATS-55. Handle material is bead blasted black linen micarta. Thought about colors, but the extra SKU's are always difficult.
sal

Sal,

Will teh full-size Dyad be a liner lock?

Thanks,

Clay

The full size Dyad is a double lockback. Somewhat unique in the way the locking bar is made. In the Dyad Jr. (formerly mini Dyad), the locking bar depression closest to the blade unlocked the blade. We felt that we could increase on lock strength if the locking bar lever length was increased, so the locking lever is released by depresssing the locking lever in the second or farthest depression from the opened blade. The new Dyad jr liteweight will be made the same way.

Sal,

Just read article in old Fighting Knives issue about Chinook, looking forward to Spyderco's collaboration with Keating on that.

What is the idea with the D'Holder, had read about it once at knifecenter, what can you tell us?

Teh Merlin '99, is that going to be with the reversible clip?

Lum Chinese Folder, you will be a saint if that goes into production. Ah, Rolling Lock

Can you describe the Bradichansky Credit Card Knife?

What sort of blade shape does the Ayoob have?

Martial Folder? Can a man be a saint twice? Like a saint squared maybe?

Sal, this may sound gratuitous, but I have a wish list of knives, production. Your products account for more than any other manufacturer. Probably two thirds of the list.

Never go away,

I must prepare for immediate radical budget depletion.

Thank you Spyderco team!

Sal: blade length on the big Dyad? Even at the 3" range it'd be worth owning as a deep-cover fighter legal to conceal in ALL jurisdictions.

If you guys could roll up a 4" "Combat MegaDyad" I'd be in heaven.

One detail: have you guys ended the BS related to Internet dealer online price quotes yet?

Thank you for the kind words. The crew and I appreciate your support.

The Keating "Chinook" is still scheduled for this year. Emphasis is on lock strength (due to the nature of the design) and we are still refining. Sorry for the delay. Sometimes we're slow, but eventually arrive.

The D'Holder is an unusual design that D made up primarily for the French market. It is the only folder that he makes. It is the smallest knife we make in terms of blade length, razor sharp, money clip, non-offensive anywhere in the world. We are coming out with a number of limited production Collaborations in the next year or so.

The new Merlin uses the Delica handle with the reversible clip in black.

The Bob Lum Chinese folder will go into production late this year for 2K delivery. My current plan is to use a Rekat Rolling Lock. Have not yet discussed this with Bob, but I don't think there will be objections.

The Bradichansky Credit card knife - hmmm, difficult to explain. Imagine 3 credit cards pinned together in the front. The middle is the blade and pivots open into a knife. The shape is unusual though. Once the decision is made to run with a production batch, we'll be able to provide some pics.

Ayoob is a 4" long upswept curve similar to the catcherman. Radical bend in the open position (about 150 degrees instead of 180). This permits straight wrist cutting.

Martial folder is G-10, nested Rekat Rolling Lock, upswept 3.5" (90mm) blade, flat ground 440V.

We hope never to go away.

Sal,

Can you say what blade lengths are planned for the Chinese Folder? I have seen the original Bob Lum with a 3 1/8" blade and also the Mini with the blade measuring 2 7/16", but I get the impression that there is also a larger model. Also have you decided what the scale material will be (please say Titanium)?

Thanks for your time.

I am considering a purchase of the Calypso Jr.- micarta, but think I would much prefer the Calypso Jr. Lite model. What are the plans for this previously mentioned Calypso Jr. Lite (Zytel, VG-10, tip down, ambi clip)? Is it still being evaluated for its potential as a viable new product, or does it have a development/production schedule?

Best Regards, ToddO
