So what is new from Spyderco this year?

The Chinese Folders are scheduled for the larger version (blade under 4") and the medium version (Blade length about 3.25).

ToddO - design for the lite wieght Calypso jr is finished, texture in bi-directional like Native. Currently testing the best ways to screw in ambi tip down clip. I think the clip has to screw into metal that is nested inside scale around pivot. This is very difficult to injection mold. We're meeting for a brain storming session and decision next week. Production still will not occurr before fall '99. I would get the micarta Jr or the full size Calypso. Have not had any complaints or dissatisfied customers on either of these two models.

Todd,

I'll second Sal's suggestion. The lightweight seems to have no advantage over the regular Calypso Jr. except for the blade steel. However, even though the Jr. is 8A, the blade is so thin that it cuts for a long time [contrary to popular belief, thin edges cut longer than thick edges]. Your Calypso Jr. will continue cutting well for longer than you might think, 8A or no.

Sal,

This is probably too soon to be talking about the Ayoob model, but... what you described earlier sounds similar to a Szabo UUK. Is the entire blade 'canted' forward or is there a 'bend' in the blade? either way I'm definitely interested. I was trying to envision all the potential models you described and was having a hard time with this one. Thanks for helping me map out this years budget!

Thanks,
Ken

Ken - The entire blade is canted forward although not as severe as Laci's design.

Just when things in the manufactured knife world are evening up, you pull out ahead again. Good work. Looks like I'll be buying many spyderco's in the comming year. Cool.

Thanks Sal, I think the forward cant on a swept Catcherman style blade will produce excellent cutting dynamics. Maybe a more severe forward cant wouldn't be too bad? Anyway, I'm constantly amazed at how progressive Spyderco is willing to be. Looking forward to the rest of the year!
