Anything new and interesting out? I got a chance to try out a Chanceinhell and liked it well enough, but it needs to be thicker and made with some better steel IMO

Is that the CRKT Ken Onion blade made of 65Mn? I seen one the other day. It look ok but the blade is too thin and I did not know what the steel was. Its basically 1065 or something like that.

Yeah, for some reason, the new CRKT machetes are patterned using designs that are typically known as choppers, but are made like traditional thin bladed Latin machetes. As such, you wind up with a fine machete that can chop a little better than some, but will never compete with an actual chopper. And yeah, 65Mn is basically 1065, which is a perfectly fine steel for a machete. Complaining about needing better steel for these is a bit much IMO, since the steel is already better than Cold Steel's machetes(which are pretty well respected once you put an edge on them), and only a little worse than Condor/Imacasa's steel(which are regarded as some of the best machetes out there).

The Baryonyx machete looks really awesome, it was designed by our forum member fortytwoblades

I'm also considering getting a Viper Carnera, just need to justify the price to myself lol

When they come out, I'm interested to see if I can find one of Cold Steel's magnum warcraft tantos for close to $200. Don't usually buy production choppers or Cold Steel, but I'm hoping this will handle a bit like a 3V golok. I'm also not a fan of american tantos, but on a chopping / slashing knife, the tip design doesn't really matter much.

Busse has a current production of their ASHBM (Anniversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress). You can get them now direct. Once those retire they will be selling for a lot more. They are beautiful choppers but not cheap.

The Baroyonyx does seem quite cool really.

The reason i dont like 65mn for the chanceinhell is because of the price. Its slightly better than Cold Steels stuff, which for the record i do like, but its 3 times the price of Cold Steel's stuff. If it was a $35 dollar knife the Chanceinhell, or Halfachance would be quite cool, but im seeing it at $60. And if they used the same profiles for something that was at least 3/16ths i would be very interested.

$60? Where are you shopping at? BladeHQ has it for $42(that's where I got mine), $45 at Knifecenter, the river site has it in that price range as well. The handle is nice and comfortable, the sheath is among the better nylon sheathes I've gotten...$60 is a tad much, but I didn't feel too bad paying $42.

$40-ish makes me feel better but still i wish they had used a bit better steel. I admit the sheath seemed nice if a bit odd with all the snaps at the throat of the sheath.

In about a month or so Condors 2014 line will be out. Not a real chopper at 8" but I want the Solo bolo.

Just recently received my Baryonyx machete, and I am absolutely in love with it. Took it into the swamp on my land yesterday for 3 hours, cleared so many vines and vegetation that there wasn't any left for my other machetes. Their getting a little jealous

Magnum Warcraft Tanto is currently #1 on my list. Guessing it will be closer to $250 but the marketing videos have been great to watch!! Seems like a great deal on paper.

Glad you're enjoying it, man! Take some photos of the destruction sometime if you get the chance. :D:thumbup:

Sweet! Lookin' forward to it. Nothing makes me as pleased as seeing the Baryonyx Machete out in the world terrorizing the underbrush. :D :D :D

I want that Solobolo too. Also the Moonstalker. And, well, okay, most of the lineup really, but those are the 2 I remember the best.

Still need to get me a Baryonyx too, but car problems have kinda cut into my spending money unfortunately. I MAY see if I can swing an order next pay check, but I'll have to check my finances first.

The kabar parangatang is really nice for the price.

I picked one up last week and used it to take down a the Virginia creeper on two of my fences. Even after that and some battoning through some firewood it still shaved the hair off my arm. The sheath is functional, but pretty bad and the name is awful, but the steel and design works for me. Two fingers naturally fit into the choilfor chopping and three for fine work. I'd been looking at the Bark River goloks, but was worried about burnt edges and chipping from their processes, this knife negates any need for me to get one.
