Its hard to believe its almost spring and the year is 2013. What happened to 2012? Mom told me time sped up when you get into your 60's.

But I'm busy as ever, making a ladder hunter for the VFD; finishing up the Scottish dirk at the bottom. The one above it was the first of two, made for the same customer. They are each
20" plus.

The dagger with the ossic, at top, is the last knife my friend Jim Shaver [Spider Ridge Forge] forged and ground; I'm finishing it up for his wife Jan. I hope to do Jim proud.

The big forged ladder billet on the left has hopes of turning into a Don Hanson style real pointy Bowie knife. The feather fighter to the right is taking a bit of time, don't want to screw it up this far along.

So whats on your workbench this March, 2013? Are you busy?

Hey Fred,
Not a ton on my bench right now. This is what I was able to gather and photo this morning.

Ignore the colors... it's all iphone instagrammery. ;)

Very busy here.

I'm working on on a ton of folders, but also have a decent number of fixed blades.

I'm about finished up with my small knives and will be moving on to larger ones soon.

The sharp finger is looking good Erin! Good to see you guys are busy as well.

Fred

Hey BigBlue; your not scared of work I can see that.

The big dagger is looking good, can we see some pics when you get it finished.

Happy grinding, Fred

Here are some neck knives I'm working on. Most are rough ground and need to be taken to 400 before I heat treat them. They are all O1 except for the larger one that is 1095.

You guys are working freakishly hard! :) I finally managed to shake my health issues and got around to rough profiling some blades this morning.

A few Hunters, Kitchen and Utility.

Hi Fred,
I bet if I found last years photo's I would come up with about the same pictures.
There were 38 on the table and I now have it down to a new low of 28.
I have to get a couple more done before the Mystic Connecticut Show April 26th thu the 28th.
After that I will be going back to forging.

You guys make me feel like a slacker. I have had health issues too, though, that have really slowed me down. These are numbers three and four.

I've also been playing around with these. Forged from a couple claw hammers.

Started with these on February 16th.

Still have two from the first row and three from the second row to finish. Finished the rest, plus did another batch of 3 blades last week of which I only have one left. Making a big push just before a show in mid-April.

What a great thread! I love seeing other peoples work in progress. As new as I am to all of this, I can see that some of what I am doing is what others do, and that makes me happy. I currently have 3 pieces I am getting close to finishing. All 3 are 5160, and the top 2 are my very first forged blades. I can't wait to finish them. The handles, from top to bottom, will be cocobolo, Amboyna burl, and Bocote. I'm getting excited just thinking about how they're going to look when finished!

My bench is nowhere near as tidy as others, I guess thats why I still have stuff on it :-) Some works in progress as well as some refinishing.

As well as some pics of my shop, most of the stuff is on wheels so I can move it to the center to work.

I find myself looking at the tools and blocks of handle-material as much as the knives. :D That huge block of koa{?} on the back of Dave's work area looks like something I'd like to filch while nobody is looking.;)

Hey Peter... what are those "stick" things on the khukri in this photo... I can't figure it out.

Were you having General Tso's chicken for lunch and forgot to put your carbon steel chopsticks away?

I've got some varied projects on the go. I am just a hobbyist and by the time I took my picture, my ADHD meds completely wore off. I was definitely bouncing from one thing to the next that night.
