So what's the consensus on "Taurus" firearms?

quick question...

does dry firing a DAO hurt it at all?

just wondering.

DAO doesn't matter. The individual gun's design will be what matters. They all have a little different set up on the firing pin. Some will be prone to peening or breaking, others won't. You'll have to let us know what model gun it is and hopefully someone will know :)

gotcha.

the weapon i'm inquiring about is my Taurus PT111, Milennium Pro.

I've been reading up on it a bit and some other sources say the manufacturer suggests against dry firing. So, i guess it's bad.

really.....i used to dry fire mine with no probs, didnt go nutz on it though. but did occasionally do it.

i know kahr/glock and SIG are all ok with it.

i don't really know how dry firing works or what it does to the firearm, but it looks like "snap caps" are just fitted bullet replicas that stop the firing pin?

instead of using snap caps, can i just use an expended shell or something?

you could, but: snap caps have either a rubber or spring actuated pad area where the primer would be, that gives the firing pin something to strike and transfer the energy into. And they are also a good training aid for shooting and loading/cycling the weapon. When shooting, you randomly load a few into your magazine, so while you are shooting, when one of them becomes chambered and you go to fire, nothing will happen and you will get to see how you may move or anticipate at the last second of your trigger pull, it's a great way to unmask bad habits which will help your technique and accuracy :) IMO they are worth the 5 bucks

Not any more then firing it will as long as it's not a rimfire. You can take a spent round and remove the primer and fill it with some hard rubber like substance and make your own.

Here's some drills for you to try if you want.
