So, what's "the knife" right now?

^^^I was considering a Tenacious, but I figured it would be similar to a Rat 1. I really want to try a Spyderco, since I don't own one. I'm starting to think I should just go for the PM2. Even if I didn't carry it everyday, I'm sure I would love having it.

You'll be happy no matter what one you get. Check out the Manix models too. In my opinion they are a little bit better than the PM2.

I've heard that in quite a few reviews. A lot of guys say the Manix is the way to go. The bad part is getting my hands on both. I'm more than likely going to have to order and that's the bad part...

When it comes to affordable options, the answer is almost always "SAK, Opinel, Mora"... almost a BladeForums mantra :). The rest becomes (sometimes hotly) debated amongst us knife-nuts...

Absolutely well made. I have a small Grip which I have disassembled, but I don't see how I'm way off, because they are plastic-feeling in the hand and BM's in general are overpriced. That doesn't mean I don't own 15 of them, because I do.

Fair enough; sorry if I misunderstood your post and kudos on owning 15 of em.:D:cool:

You never know until you handle them. I'm not a huge fan of spyderco but I have a buddy who is and has tons of them. The PM2 is a great knife, the manix for me just feels better, and stronger. Purely personal. All I have is a Squeak and I find that little slip joint will do 95% of everything I need done with a folder. Anything more demanding and I go fetch a fixed blade.

You should be happy with whatever you get. Let us know when you get it though!

I'll definitely let you guys know....if I can ever decide. I have a fair amount of blades, mostly Buck, Kershaw, and CRKT. But I'm looking for something pretty solid without being huge. I've mentioned earlier that it will be accompanying a traditional, so whatever I decide on will share duty with another blade. I've also used the phrase "different horses for different courses", which I truly believe....

The PM2 is really good. Also, any of the Manix series are very good, especially the lightweights, which give you a lot of cutting power in a light, flat package, and for less than $100.

We tend to agree often. I carry my Cadet daily and use a Mora Companion quite often at the house.

Thanks again to everyone giving advise and answering questions. I appreciate the guidance....

In my meager collection, the ZT562CF is my "THE Knife". But not far behind is the Spyder PM2 and Domino....and well, most of the other ZT's. ;)

The Manix also gets a bunch of hype lately. Personally I like the PM2 MUCH more than the Manix2. Maybe it's because the lock spring (on my lightweight) is so strong, that it takes a very solid grip and two finger retraction to close. For any bolt/axis lock, I want it to operate like my HK Axis that cat be dropped with one finger from either side of knife.

Always a Para1 or a CQC7 but now, it's a Buck/Strider 881. This thing is so FAT.

The only thing more amazing than how many great knives are out there near the $100 price point is the more than a few that still deliver great value near the $50 price point. I don't think the game has changed all that much in terms of safe recommendations. I will only add this: If you don't just want a knife but want something that gives you a taste of the higher end of this hobby and just might be the perfect sweet spot in terms of form, function, F&F, engineering and material quality and real value.... I can not recommend the Spyderco Sage 2 enough. I think it is the new Sebenza starter kit as it gets you around 90% of the way there for just under 50% of the cost.

The Tenacious is a wonderful knife for the money. It is well worth the price. True, it is not the knife that a Manix or PM2 is but, still, a great knife for the money. Fantastic ergos. Maybe the best ergos Spyderco has to offer. A perfect starter knife if you want to try a budget Spyderco.

For me, from my own experience, the PM2 and Manix2 are very close. I personally find the Manix2XL the best folding knife ever all things considered (one can buy about four Manix's for the price of one Sebenza).
