  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

So, what's the verdict on the Smock?

Received the Smock. I was instantly "meh..." about it. Nice knife, but nothing more. It's maybe unfair that I also received a CRK L21 sebenza the same time and opened it first.

But what really irritated me was the knife was packaged (non supporting online retailer) in a single, way too big padded mailer. It was torn wide open. The spyderco box was smashed and also torn wide open. Destroyed the box. How the knife was still in there I don't know.

Knowing this would deduct possible resale value and that I was only so-so on the knife, I just went online and filed for a return shipping label. I'm returning it and all the shredded packaging and box to them.

I'm ambivalent about the Smock. It's a fantastic adult fidget toy. I've already developed a repetitive motion disorder from flipping it open and closed over and over. It's got a great grind, and it sharpens beautifully.

But the ergos confuse me. The little choil is too small for comfortable use for more than just opening packages. But gripping the knife back on the handle feels awkward and imprecise. I don't think I would enjoy breaking down a bunch of cardboard with it.

It's pretty, and it's cool, but it's not a worker.
