So whats up with Mantis Knives?

I once bought a combat ready brand folding tomahawk from Jared west. I got an email advertising it as something he designed himself for this combat ready company. There was to be a limited pre-production run and there were like fifty available now directly from Jared for something like $50 or $60 shipped. The email made it seem like it was much cheaper then the production model. Then a few weeks or months later the production model came out at like $35. It pissed me off a bit. It was just a quick underhanded way for him to make a buck at the expense of the people whose email addresses he had. Come to think of it I have no clue how he got my email in the first place. I don't remember signing up for anything like that. Either way the Folding hawk was kinda cool and seemed to be well made. It had a friction based opening system (comprised of huge jimping on the spine) that you could use on a bad guy to sort of rip the blade open by dragging it across his face lol. I bought it because it was a unique item that I hadn't seen anywhere and I like the weird stuff. Now here's the odd part. If you look it up you'll see that this design is made as a custom by Warren Thomas. It's EXACTLY the same except with the WT signature and done in TI. So I don't know what the deal is with that but I'm guessing they bit WT's design. I don't remember WT being mentioned in the email. It seemed like Jared West designed it himself. But as I said I don't know exactly what went on here and can only speculate.

Just look at this hideous thing!

"Our newest boot knife will certainly do some damage. Its name hardly does it justice. With its never before seen blade design and triple bleeder holes that double as detents for its sheath, the dagger is like nothing else on the planet. Carbon fiber scales complete its post-modern look. This piece is just a hair under 4. Its constructed of black-oxide coated 440V stainless steel. Its rugged enough to take anything you can give."

Oh man. Just wow. I needed some laughs this morning and reading those old threads was just amazing. Thank you Mantis. You've made my day a whole lot better.

Now where do I sign up for Mission Bravo Three..?

Huh, had to look up the hat just to see if that was `shopped. I don't even..

"Regarding the hats...these hats cannot be purchased at any price..." or $20 - it's one of the two.

Guessing that the hole is for attaching a massive thumbstud.

It's called the Wikus

Oh yeah baby!
Now I can target a tree or watermelon from 10 feet away before I enter "Chopping Range" and take it down!
This is so bad-azz I bet the tree will fall over from sheer fright of the laser guidance system before I even get to it!

ROFLMAO!!!!! Thanks for an actual LOL this morning BF!!!!

Mantis and Quartermaster are the way to go if you're in the mood for Chinese take-out.;)

Lol! I really don't see the purpose of the lazer but lets look at it in this situation. Keep in mind i'm not standing up for it but say you're about to be attacked by a knife wielding guy. You pull this out and flash the lazer in his eye and he'll probly be like "?????" and might run from fe- oh I dont know there is just no way to make it look good.

I had a mantis mf1-b fixed blade that I carried in my boot for a year or so. It was an ok knife, the f&f was noticeably lesser in comparison to more well known brands but it wasnt horrific. The 420hc didnt hold up too well, not nearly as good as buck's 420hc. I dont care for mantis designs so I stay away, theyre too strange and fantasy ish, I want my knife to work not look like some kind of space ninja demon slayer ridiculousness.

The laser guided knife was originally created for BladeSports (competition cutting). It was perhaps designed to aid in training for precision speed cutting.

It was not a great idea, and was originally marketed with a video made in a hotel room at the Blade show.

Sponsoring BladeSports might have been the best thing Mantis ever did (it (BladeSports) is a great organization)

I wish I could find that original video to share, they may have pulled it.

Essentially, they have attempted to capitalize on marketing the whole dark ops concept to people that fantasize about that sort of thing. It seems lame, but I'm sure it profitable.
