So when do we start talking about the 2016 Forum Knife?

I loved the process last year, and I am looking forward to this year. So I was just wondering, when do we start talking, arguing, dreaming, and brainstorming?

I know that last year was a lot of work for the people that actually made the knife happen, but the process really helped me feel connected to this sub-forum and community. I love that I got to get a Canal Street Cutlery knife, especially since they announced their closure. I just can't wait to see what the decision is this year.

I would just like to say right at the start, that I am hoping that we might have a whaler as an option this year!

Thar she blows!

I also wouldn't mind a rope knife. They are pretty handy.

Keeping with the scrimshaw theme :)

We've been very lucky to get the past couple of years' forum knives, when it had previously looked like there wouldn't be another. I don't think we can take it as read that there will be one this year though. Choosing a pattern (and I'd love a Whaler) is the very least of it. Team Charlie stepped in to secure a knife for us in 2014, and again last year, but Charlie has indicated he'd like a rest this year, and I think he has certainly earned it, as indeed have the rest of the team who put in a vast amount of unpaid work so the posters here could have a knife of their choosing at a knock-down price

I vote for a 4 blade scout/camp knife, with color case hardened handles, spear or clip main blade of 1095, can opener, screwdriver/cap lifter and awl/punch of a tool steel. All blades blued or browned, brass or bronze pins and bail.
A large sunfish would also get my vote. :)

That Texas sized Camp Knife would work, too.

I'd say maybe we ought to wait to discuss a 2016 Forum Knife until the Mods announce that there will be one.

Hopefully a Traditional Forum moderator will step in and let everyone know what's up.

It is uncertain and clearly a taxing process organizing the FK but I reckon worthwhile...

However, success can be its own worst enemy...many different options have been covered: single blade, 2 blades, 3 blades, blade and tool, 2 blades one spring, carbon,D2, stainless, longpull. Shadow, long bolster,Rat-tail, Barehead, woods, stags, bones, synthetic. CS,Northwoods,Queen, GEC. What's left that's within reach?

If I had a free-hand, I'd suggest simple and special: an existing pattern -GEC 15, Barehead, single Sheepfoot blade longpull, a bone colour & jigging unique to the knife (say, light colour Peach Seed) or a really nice acrylic in the Old School Cell style, the Bladeforums stamp. End result, a knife that's feasible to make at an interesting price, materials not used before. Put it up, if less than 200 sign for it it does not take place.

Of course a Tip bolstered knife would be awe inspiring but it would likely cost too much to get it....

Here's my selection of the past, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015.

I think my only real input prior to any official announcement is that I've been hoping and thinking about a 2016 BF knife for quite some time, especially with those bocote lovelies from last year being pictured all over the place. Of course, my ideal 2016 would be a Barlow, but it's more about the community than the pattern, I think. I know I'd be willing to pay a premium for a unique knife, but I also know there are certain logistical hurdles and that the people who clear them on a voluntary basis each year are doing yeoman's work. If I had any sort of connections (materials, fabrication, etc.) I would be the first to volunteer my time and contacts, but I don't think I can be of any help. Won't stop me from thinking positive and hoping that BF has at least one more forum knife in it. :D

Mammoth? :p

Loving that beerdrop in the back. Great collection of special knives!

Seems like a lot of work to set this up for folks that are not dealers already. On that note, it seems (from what little I know) like it would be easier to have one of the dealers on the forum coordinate it. There's quite a few dealers that are very active here. For example, what if fiddleback forge built a forum knife, or esynx, or _______ fill in the blank. I really don't know anything about the process; I assume it's very time consuming. I just wanted to throw out an idea that might take some stress off of those that set it up last year.

On January 8, 2015 Barry announced that everyone has received their 2015 knife. That was less then 3 weeks ago. The first poll for the 2015 knife was held in June.

To the best of my knowledge there has been no discussion about if or how a 2016 knife might happen.

In other words it's way too early to start a serious discussion. I'm sure Frank will weigh in later also.

To be clear here, I wasn't thinking of this as a serious discussion on the topic, I was mostly hearkening back to the unofficial, precipitously early, discussion thread for the 2015 knife that was started in 2014. I am not trying to suggest that anyone should be voting on anything, I just had fun participating in the "wouldn't it be cool" kind of discussion on the "It's never to early" thread.

Obviously, January is long before any actual votes or plans would be made, if any are made this year. I just enjoy hearing what people hope for.

And as afishhunter suggested, that Texas Camp Knife of Charlie's would work nicely...

It is a long and time consuming process for the leaders of the forum knife, I just hope that we can get a group together that are willing to put in the time again:)

I'm not trying to stifle a conversation, just making sure no assumptions are made about 2016. This place is supposed to be fun. Let's have some.
