So..when do you scissors as opposed to a knife?

I rarely use scissors to open packaging. As an example, I generally use a knife to open plastic blister packages unless the package contains something fragile like light bulbs. I use a knife to open bags and boxes. If I need to cut paper straight for under 4" I use scissors, if I need to cut it straight for 4 to 10 inches I use my knife and a ruler. I trim my beard with scissors when they are handy. I pull nose hair out by the roots rather than use scissors. I trim frayed cloth with scissors. If I'm cutting old towels down to rags I use a knife and a cutting board.

Thats a really good question. I always wondered about the need for scissors in a SAK. I liked the Leatherman Squire P4 because I thought pliers were more useful if you already had a knife, but many disagree.

when I dont have a knife, or I nead a clean cut on paper. Anthing else that would normally scissor cut (instead of slash or slice),like zip ties, I will close my knife on, since the edge is sharper this works better usually and is more fun. If I am around delicate stuff that can easlly be stabbed or cut by something sharp I use wire cutters or scissors to limit point and length.

Scissors are excellent for cutting an unraveling carpet seam. We install alot of berber carpet where I work which quite often loosens at the seam. You can snip loose ends, where I knife would pull more of the pile out. Also, signal wire often has a stringy insulation with it which is easily trimmed off with scissors. ;)

Just like today. I used the scissors on my SAK for cutting zip ties on my mountain bike up near the handle bar foam grips. Scissors are great for when you can't afford to slip. For those times when you fear you may end up cutting something other than what you want to cut if you use your knife.

I generally use scissors to trim my 'stash with, since I don't want to have to pick my upper lip off the floor from a slip of a sharp knife.:D.

I wish my wife liked beards and 'stashes'. I can grow them but if I want, well, you know. Then I have to shave. LOL.

I do use my scissors for trimming too. Love the SAK. I would probably have to say the scissors are the most frequently used tool on it. Those and perhaps the small pliers on the model I have.

I use my scissors instead of a knife in some sheeple-saturated environments. While if I was alone, I'd just use my knife, but if I'm in a public area, say, cutting a coupon out in line at a supermarket, I'm not going to whip out my balisong or auto. I'll use the scissors on my LM Squirt.

Other people use my scissors more than I do. Everybody I know knows that I carry knives, so I'm the go-to guy when they need something cut. More often than not though, scissors are a better task, or I'll give them the scissors rather than risk them hurting themselves with my knife (or hurting my knife too).

You could use scissors when a zip TIE WAS needing to be cut. ;)
Ugh...now that was just wrong... :p

Like STR--I often use the scissors on my S4 Squirt to cut things like zip ties. Just today I used it to cut the zip ties that they put around in the cables inside a computer. If I had used my knife, I would've either cut myself or knocked the edge against the side of the case.

I use scissors for...

Personal grooming.
Snipping excess fishing line.
Cutting small zip-ties.
Cutting metal wire (EMT scissors are great)

Allen.

In general I use scissors (trauma shears) when I have to the clothing off of my patients. I use a knife on most packages.

Don't think I've used scissors in a long time. Paper, packages, and tape get the knife. Hair gets the clippers.
