STeven,

It was great meeting you, too.. But I swear the price was never mentioned on that Jason Knight!

I might of just sacrificed everything for that one... Dang price of gas anyway! LOL!!!

Well, I guess I'll see you in Portland for Blade West!

Don't worry, Joe, the knife will still be around in Portland. I'll sell it for the right price, which differs from person to person. For you, good deal.:)

Everything on the table was for sale except for the two knives that my business partner made. That means that we had between 250-300 knives for sale.

We have been going to the Eugene Show for the past 12 years as collectors.

I agree that it has changed a lot. I'm not yet sure if the change is good or bad. I guess it depends on what you are looking for or want to see in the show.

The thing we notice the most is a lot of the well known makers are not there anymore and there are a lot more collections and stuff like Case folders.

I think this years show was a lot better then last year, we saw a lot more great custom knives.

I got into digital photography last year and this year I took almost 400 pics. But I lost around 100 that I took on Friday because my laptop crashed on Saturday morning after I downloaded Fridays pics to it. I had my camera in hand just about the whole time I was at the show. I did not notice any "No Pictures" signs. Everyone seemed happy to let me take pics of their table and knives. I thought that since I can not buy everything that I wanted I could at least take some pics to look at them later.

I did get a couple pics of Bruce Bump's "Brutus" right before he had the professional pics shot. It is an amazing piece, very, very nice. And to Bruce, Audra did say that she thought that "Brutus" should have taken the "Best Art Knife" award. She was telling everyone that Brutus deserved the award way more the her dagger.

I do miss the cutting competition, but the last one a couple of years ago got a little too technical for most and took too long to complete. It was more entertaining and exciting to keep it to a few things like the free hanging rope cutting and hanging paper cutting and maybe the pop can cutting. I remember the room being packed solid and everyone holding their breath waiting to see if Ed would make it through 8 or 9 ropes. It was very exciting and a lot of fun then.

We will keep going to the Eugene Show, it become kind of a tradition in my family. We go to see and buy the knives but we also go to see and talk to the makers and people we have come to know over the years.

And folks, it was an awesome collection!

Both STeven's and the Caldwell's, Matt and Robert, had the most amazing collections in which everything was for sale... I guess I'll have to get my taxes done earlier next year and spend my refund in Eugene!!!

Of course, I probably won't see either of the ones STeven's talking about... After reading Anthony's post... I guess I can say goodbye to those two! LOL!!!! :D

I have been going to the Eugene show for 7 years now. I am a custom maker and ABS Journeyman Smith. I too can not tell wether the changes I have seen are for the better or worse. Last year was to be my deciding year, if I would return or not. Dennise meved my table and I had a great year. This year did not match last year but I made more that the first 5 combined. Many makers have decided not to return and this comment was made by those attending on both sides of the table. Over-all for me the show is a success, just seeing everyone and meeting new friends and customers make it woth going to. It is still one of the most affordable shows out there. so if nothing else it is good for advertising. I'll be going back and hope to see all my friends next year.

STeven,
Are any of the knives you put up for sale modified by you? Just curious...

Yes, I Garssonized the handle on the Knight, Jason was highly amused by this, in a good way.

The Foster fighter had originally been Garssonized, but Burt had to take the knife apart to fix a loose spacer, so we came up with a new handle with a compromise of his original idea, and my preferences.

Full disclosure would have been made regarding any mods, as always.
