I don't "carry" one but I have an extensive BOB in my car at all times. It contains a Maxpedition bag that if I had to, I could load several items into. There is also a larger backpack if I needed to take more items from the car box.

Langston, have you seen County Comm lately? They just got in an XL-BOB, looks like a significantly larger size.

I have two little kits in waterproof lock-tight containers recommended by another member last week. One kit is devoted to first aid and is always with me, on travel or to work. It stays in my backpack that carries both my SLR and laptop, so I have it when going to work and also when playing the field. The second kit contains shelter, TP, fire and water. I usually have this one in my pack but all the airport contraband is in there so it gets taken out when on the airplane. Most of my air travel is hopping from one destination to another and I just don't trust check-in baggage at all so I have to be very conscious of security check no-no's when traveling.

I carry a SAK farmer every day, and my Doc Canada super duper PSK every day as well. In the ride I have a BOB, and medic bag, and of course a variety of items at home.

i don't really carry a dedicated kit like that...i would like to put one together but i want to get a few items and a new bag first.

i do always carry some form of shelter, fire, water, food and blades whenever i'm in the woods though. sometimes its as simple as my stockman, a granola bar, a space blanket, my zippo, and a bottle of water. often it is a heavy duty space blanket with a tarp backing, a small fixed blade, a bottle of water and some snacks, as well as a container to boil in. an axe or hatchet often comes along too.

I have carried a "bag" for for many years. It stays in the car when I go into a store but my pockets are always loaded with enough stuff for cutting, fire-making, illumination, minor first air and rudimentary "shelter." I at least have the means to make shelter in any case. The "bag" is in the house with me when at home, in that car wherever I go and on my person if I am not going into a public building for a short period. It has always been more of a kit for normal, day to day incidents as well as for real emergencies. It contains all the makings for a PSK in a hevy duty zip-lock bag, plus a bunch of stuff that gets used fairly regularly. One day, I will relax enough to empty it completelt and inventory/photograph the contents. It's just amazing what all will fit in a small Timbuk-2 Metro and it could take some time to spread it all out and then get it all back together. The benefit of using from it regularly is that the contents are selected/rejected based on personal experience and one of my favorite knives stays in there as a result - not a knife I don't care much for or use much. I designed this knife specifically for such use, so I guess I do think about the importance of a "bag" quite a bit. This also helps keep things rotated and I know where everything is. Since it is filled with stuff I know and use, it is not only good for everyday tasks, it is also very well-equiped for full-blown emergencies.

So, yes, I do carry and use a "bag" regularly and have for a long time. What I thought was really cool when I found sites like this is that I realized I wasn't such a freak after all,.............. OK, maybe I am a freak but at least I am not the ONLY freak.:D

Terrill Hoffman has a wonderful article on BOB bags in swat magazine, you should check it out.

I carry a courier-type bag every day that is always with me, so I stuffed a few odds and ends in it like a multitool, lighter, flashlight, water bottle.

good for you guys....for being prepared

i am building one for my wife to carry with her...and one for my daughter as well...

womans needs and all make things different for sure.

When I'm working, I carry a laptop bag with me. I attach my PSK, which is a camera case, to the strap of my bag. I can easily remove my kit and attach it to any other pack, depending on what I'm doing. So it's safe to say that I have a PSK on me at most times. Exceptions would be short walks to the grocery store and other situations where I don't carry a pack of any kind.

All the best,

- Mike

I have a decent BOB in the car that could last me a few days. I also carry a variety of useful things in my everyday bag to school and to run errands.

My EDC, is pretty much the guts of my personal survival kit. I carry a large silk bandana, match safe w/compass (sewing kit, food gathering kit, extra tinderquik), Victorinox trekker, BSA Hotspark, A.M. Heatsheet, A.M. Pocket Medic, A.M. Pocket survival pak w/Katadyn MP-1 purifications tablets, 1 watt AA light, Gerber pocket multitool and a bic lighter. When I intend to be alone on a day long hike, I add a shoulder bag with USGI canteen cup/canteen/water/pouch, extra batt, coffee filters, gloves, couple 55gal. drum liners, tp, Mora knife, cordage and a USGI poncho.

In my truck I have a ditch kit in case I have to leave the vehicle for some reason. It's a fairly wide range of items in a maxpedition fat boy or jumbo, whichever was the larger of the two.

In there I have the following from memory:

2AA Led Flashlight
1 turtle led white, plus headband to snap it to if necessary
1 turtle led red, in case I have to walk home at the side of the road and want to be seen
Large fixed blade for brute work
small folder for delicate work
Rain Jacket
DMT folding stone (red)
Several pens, pencils, markers etc
Waterproof notepad
Spare keys for everything I have
Spare N-cells for the eotech
Small 10x monocular with surprisingly crisp image
Light fleece sweater
6-8 Eat-More bars
1 liter of water
1 spare mag for the M14 which lives in the truck.
50 feet of paracord

That's everything I can think of offhand.

However, I also have a HSGI Armordilla that I use for my school bag, as I go to school most days after work. There's a couple of liters of water in there, a fancy tactical flashlight and spare batteries, a scrapyard guard in the draw compartment, a radio, a Leatherman supertool and another 8 or 10 Eat-More bars. I also have the option of throwing a few mags in there but so far I haven't done that. I might start carrying a few more in the truck so I can grab them if I need them, but I don't really think I would.

Anyway I figure that should get me through most earthquakes, major power outages, floods, things like that.

It occurs to me that I do also keep a thick fleece blanket in the truck, just in case I'm stuck somewhere for a long time.

:oNot much at this point. Just my SAK, Seb, light and small CPR fluid barrier. Been putting together a small PSK, though.
