Well I have been searching since I retired officially in July of 16 for the fixed blade. Simply because I can carry what I choose to and not worry about it at work anymore. Well I have found 2 that I absolutely think are first rate. A damascus fixed blade made by a forge in Russia, has a stamp of a ram or something on the blade. Leather and micarta handle about 4.5" blade and stupid sharp and lite wt. and just a superb handle combination and very very well made. The second I've had in my hands for a few hours and that is the First Edge in elmax 5150 knife. Way beyond heavy duty for anything more than I'll ever probably need it for. But again just superbly made and don't really know how to describe it in the hand. An extension of it. Just a hint of blade heaviness to it in the saber grip. THE ONLY DRAW BACK FOR ME IS THE SHEATH, way to technical for lack of a better term for me. It is just to heavy on the belt for me to comfortably carry with it stuck in my back jeans pocket. So I'll search around or have made a nice leather sheath. Ok thats it. Keepem sharp

PS helluva a deal imho on the 5150 to be had if you look around.

Once you get over $200 you're edging into custom territory. If it's going to be carried a lot, I'd look at adding a hundred bucks and getting it handmade by one of the fine craftsmen here on BF.

I don't think I would or will find 2 better fixed blades for what I need and want in the two mentioned above, which I guess was my point. Done buying f.b.'s I think. keepem sharp
