As an addition to why I carry and am interested in traditionals, it's because there is a lot more to them than you expect. I have heard people say things like "there are a few patterns to get, then what" but the more I see the more I come to understand that there is really an endless number of possibilities. Mix in different styles and talents and backgrounds of makers and its mind boggling.

Last week, visiting the inlaws; my 24 year old niece (Stanford Grad) is slicing a bunch of carrots with an 8 inch chefs knife in her hand. My son pulls out his Mercator K55 and offers assistance.
She; recoils in horror; "Why are you carrying a knife? That's dangerous!"
He; .......speechless.
