So, you removed the child safety from your bic mini, right?

Pure genius :) The other method is to find a fat o-ring to block the fuel lever. Using cast off parts gets twice the awards for brain power :thumbup:

That is an awesome tip! I have electrical tape tightly wrapped to block off the switch, currently. Will have to get a couple more mini safety lighters and try this out!

Tape and O-rings were my first thoughts as well, but I didn't want the residue from tape, or the possibility of degrading O-rings.

Thanks for the the thanks, everyone!
Pass this on to whoever you may know outside of the forums, as well. It's just too well suited!

This is a REALLY good idea! Very inventive, one of those "why didn't I think of that?" things! Thanks for bumping it back up, and posting it in the first place.

And let's not forget the venerable Zippo with a safety lanyard:

doc, whats the case? it doesnt appear to be a standard zippo minus the lighter bit, that'd leave a square hole...

It's not, it's actually made this way by Bic. On the flip side of the case, it's embossed with the Bic name. It's a case for mini Bics. I bought it last week at a gas station. I've seen it in a few different places, so it should be 'coming to store near you' very soon. I think it was $4.95, lighter included. The spring loaded top seems to be quite positive.

So why remove the child lock in the first place? Doesn't it do the same thing?

The child safety block makes it more difficult to manipulate the wheel. It doesn't keep you from leaking the gas. At least that's my understanding. I haven't used a Bic in a while,. and probably won't go back to one. I have induced a couple to many catastrophic failures and burnt thumbs for my taste. I'm a Zippo man know.
