So you've got a 14 and a 24...

I used my stripped 14 everyday at work, but I'm a marine mechanic and my 14 kept rusting under the scales because my hands or the boats are often wet during this season from draining blocks and winterizing. I recently got a 24 and so far I haven't had the same problems. I'm not worried about babying it as to me a knife is a tool, just like everything else in my toolbox. it mainly gets used for opening parts boxes, cutting zipties, cutting LOTS of shrinkwrap, tape, I've stripped heavy gauge wire, and notched wood to make a reverse lockout block for a trailer. both knives performed admirably, I just prefer the 24 at work as its a bit more rust resistant and holds the edge a bit longer as well.

I have two Becker Eskabars, and one of the D'eskabars. I love all three of them equally, but I carry my first 14 the most often. In fact the other 14 and the 24 haven't actually been carried or really used much at all. I prefer the 14 over the 24, but that in no way means I wouldn't carry and use the 24. My only problem with the 24 is that I oiled it about six weeks ago and placed it in my closet. Today I brought it out and it has small rust spots on the top and bottom of the grip tang. Maybe twenty total. Doesn't really bother me and they won't be hard to remove. I did think it would be more rust resistant than that, though, being of a more corrosion resistant steel. I haven't had any rust on the 14 I carry every day, as the worn parts and the edge are inside a kydex sheath inside of my pocket, and the rest of the knife is coated. I thought about putting a coat of Gunkote on the 24. I refinished my surplus Browning Hi Power in the stuff and it's a pretty tough finish but at the end of the day it isn't important enough for me to do that to the knife, if I carry it and it gets little rust spots it just isn't a huge deal to me to let them be or to clean them off.

I am still curious about how the rust spots came to be, though. Any ideas on what might have caused them?

Here are some pictures of my three, from my first thread here:

Well, theories abound I'm sure, but even though the BK24 is said to be D2, which is not, in my mind, a stainless steel, will rust every bit as quickly if not cared for properly as a 1095 steel that is not painted. Looking at my 24, I can't help but wonder why it looks hardly any different then a BK14 that has been stripped and left alone....no polishing, no tumbling, no stone washing, just stripped and unfinished?

I have a BK11 for about a year now. I love it so I got the BK-24 and I really like this one. A perfect size.
I was under a assumption the BK-11 and the BK-14/24 had the same blade size. My BK-24 has a slightly wider blade and just about the same length.
I am more then happy with my purchase.
