SoCal BeckerHead Day Hike Sign-Up

Holy Jim is a very pleasant stroll, great family hike. You follow a stream up to a very small waterfall but it's nice and short. The last grizzly bear in California was shot there. I think they used to raise bees, I'm not sure raising is the right word but they kept bees and sold honey. Holy Jim is actually Cussing Jim, they used Holy Jim for the trail because it's more PC. I think he planted some type of berry there that he harvested and sold.

The route to the trail head is a little rugged.

A lot of tragic things have occurred at Black Star, kinda spoiled it for me.

There's definitely a lot of urban legends attached to that place. Supposedly it's fine as long as you're there in the day though. I'm open to suggestions though.

Chantry Flats is also nice but gets a little busy on the weekends. It is at the Santa Anita off ramp of the 210 freeway about 3-4 miles west of where the 605 dead ends into the 210. Don't know of any local watering holes but there is an In N Out right at the freeway where you get off.

I'm down for the 6th, and for wherever, never done any local hiking so I am unfamiliar with local trails

I'm good with the 6th. Let me know where and when and me and the boys are there...

Congrats man! 10 years, that's a big one! Well how about October 6th? You're the only one who has chimed in on a date so I will try to cater to you first :)

So, Oct. 6th guys, what's the word?

All you folks that are basic members, I can't PM you so please try to respond in thread if you actually plan to go, I would really like to make this happen and not just be a cool idea for a thread. If it comes down to it and there are only three of us who are confirmed, then I hope the other two show up because no matter what I plan on making the date we set!

P.S. Zackr1983 I added you to list, thanks!

Okay so unless someone jumps in and desperately want to change it from the 6th for good reason we are going to assume it's going to be on the 6th.

Now we're down to the where. I still vote for Black Star Canyon and drinks at Paul's in the Orange Circle because I love Orange and I love Paul's and I've always wanted to explore Black Star.

Also in the running is Holy Jims followed by Cook's Corner for food/drinks, San Gabriel Mountains, or Chantry Flats. Input is welcome and will be considered/reviewed. I am not the boss of this day hike, just trying to put it together, so please feel free to chime in and tell me when what I want to do sucks if you have a better idea :D

Black Star sounds interesting...I've been to Pauls...I use to work down the street from there.

I'm not in exactly but very interested, I like in Bakersfield, yeah I know, and would be like to find the time to do something like this with my fellow knife people. Also might I suggest the Giant Redwoods area near Bako, very cool if you have never gotten to see them and there more hikey places around there which can be had after the trail of a 100 giants.

The Redwoods are great haven't been there since I was a kid, I need to make a trip up there again sometime.

Now some Red Woods would be great. San Gabriels followed by Chantry, not sure if we can really hack it up at Chantry, pretty small trail and surrounding area, at least that's how I see it. We can always head back to the North Woods Inn down Rosemead Blvd. Great food, I don't drink so I don't know about 'em. The 6th sounds good to me so far.

Hey guys bumping this back up. Please chime in if you're still interested because as I know how crazy schedules can be (mine is booked morning to night months at a time usually) I'd like to dead set the plans and then just leave it up to everyone to see if they will be able to allow for it. Please see OP for further info.

Whichever one you get better show up at the day hike modded to hell so I can ogle it. 1SHOT since you're the only one that responded and earlier in the thread you said you're down for Black Star we are going to stick with Black Star.

Official Plan:
October 6th
Black Star Canyon followed by libations at Paul's in the Circle.

PM or post in this thread for more info, RSVP's are appreciated.

Bumping back up to hopefully remind anyone that is interested to keep the 6th of October open.

Also, me and HunterSharp are kind of planning a small meet up at the end of the month if anyone else in the greater Orange County/Los Angeles area would be interested in attending, probably just lunch or something. It would take place near Corona/Riverside.

Got the day set aside...I'm in Mira Loma...just miles from Corona/Riverside...let me know...I'm up for a get together.

Count on it...looks like a BK-7 is in my future...maybe some grips...some stone washing/remove coating...spec ops or kydex sheath...oh the choices...

How are we on this get together? Its this weekend...who's prepared...who's not? I still haven't had time to pick up my Becker:mad:

Didn't know anyone else actually wanted to do this from the feedback I was getting in this thread when I had been trying to bump it! Although you seemed pretty interested this whole time 1Shot, probably the only one who was. I didn't make the request off at work because I thought interest fizzled out...BUT!!!!! I work in the day time, soooo, what if we changed it to drinks at night instead and we can try to hash out a future day hike over some alcohol? I'm free after like 8PM. Interested?

I've been lurking this thread for a while. I knew I couldn't make this hike (my daughter's first birthday is being celebrated this weekend!) so I never chimed in.

I'm just chiming in now to point out that the Plaza Cutlery sponsored knife show is this weekend, which might explain the fizzled interest.

Oh S****...I forgot about the Plaza Cutlery show...where's that credit card....

@ Rogue Bowie...shoot me an email and I'll see what I can do. You can also pm me for my cell number if that's easier.
