SoCal W&SS Hike 3-6-11

Okay, spring is just around the corner and it's time to get the legs moving and burn off the last of the holiday blubber. From what I've read on-line (so we know it's true!) Morgan Trail is scenic, relatively easy 9 mile out and back. It's located East of Lake Elsinore and just South of the Ortega Hwy (74). Seems to be a good middle ground for the LA, Riverside, Orange, and San Diego Counties folks.

Wildewinds, Sasha, and I are meeting at the East trail-head off of Killen Road (aka South Main Divide Road???) Sunday March 6th at 0830. Open invitation for all local W&SS folks to join us. None of us have hiked this, so guessing out and back will take 6+ hours. We'll stop and eat half way through so bring some grub. Of course, you can't get in the door without bringing a cutting implement and some W&SS related goodies for show-and-tell. :)

Or if you want to reward yourself with a well-earned cerveza, you can head a little further up Ortega Highway to a biker bar called Hell’s Kitchen. It’s not as rough as it sounds, and you can get a burger and a beer. The condiments are served in a casket!

Lets see all the old faces and some new ones as well. Lets see all the guys and gals come out of the woodworks and enjoy the CA weather. While everyone else is still freezing. Cant wait for a great hike with some great guys again..

I'll be in LA on Saturday but have to come back home the same day. I wish I could join you on the hike. You guys should start planning the next bushbash. Are any of you going to the knife show in Pasadena this Saturday?
 
Can't make it to the knife show unfortunately. Stick around a day Ray, one of us will put you up overnight for a minimal fee. :)

Jason, I have some stuff to do on Sunday. I didn't know you guys were planning a hike.
 
Tenaja Falls is right around the corner and probably pumping pretty hard, especially this weekend after our storm. You can hike to the falls from the Morgan Trail but it's a little far. I was just there just a few weeks ago and shot a short video on Youtube that I posted.

Great to see some vids of the general area...didn't really know what we were getting into. So thinking of joining us on Sunday?
 
Vaj1111 i second Jason Q are you going to join us??? it would be great to have along someone that knows the good spots. And im willing to go for for an all day hike. 12-17miles to see some great spots. It should be a great day hiking that area... Are dogs o.k ???

Sasha, I'm going to second Mike on the extra distance. I'll have one or two people joining me and neither are ready for a longer day.

I think I read that dogs are okay, but best bet is to call the ranger station and ask.
 
To make sure we find each other easily, let's meet at the intersection of 74 x Killen Rd. between 8:15 and 8:30, then we can drive up to the trail head as a group. You'll need an adventure pass to park at the trail.
