Socketed spear

thanks guys! The gun show sapped all my money so I did not get a pole tonight, but nect weekend.

Chuck, I plan on hunting hay bales :D I'd love to do a hog hunt but need to find a guide. Apparently NY has hogs, and they are on the eradicate list.

Matt, i'm dim what are you talking about hunting?

I left the tip a little too fine and bumped it while it was hot into the forge brick, hence it got bent over a touch, I'll regrind it.

Man that looks good. I haven't been on one of those hunts in a long time. I need to look up a guide now.
 
is the person in Taiwan or the PRC? you will have an awful time getting it into the mainland. PRC citizens (mainly urban folk) can't carry any kind of knife, and no forms of weapons can be sent to them from abroad. even books about weapons may be confiscated. i sent a box of books, including some knife books, to a friend in Beijing. i got it back about 10 months later, looking like it had been in several dumpsters. it had been opened and resealed. the books were fine. There might be a way of sending it to an antique dealer, calling it an historical relic..........................b
 
Sam , a few years ago someone decided to raise European boar just north of you .They escaped and I was told they can be found in unidentified freezers !!
In my town they raised a few bison but they were sent to a preserve in north central PA. You could hunt in a preserve though it's no a 'real' hunt.
 
Thought the spearhead might need something, so I tried a Japanese styled wrap on the socket, let me know what you think.

That's a beauty, Sam. I like the way you integrated your mark too. Very nice.

You should consider making those for folks in Texas that have a really large problem with wild hogs. I bet some of them would gladly invite you on numerous hunts and only charge you one spear head for all the hogs you can slay.

You could start and organic sausage business as a sidebar.
 
If i'm not mistaken there is hogs near binghamton:confused: or somewhere northwest of us...and YES they are on the eradicte list! Can u make me a boar spear with a holster for a .44 mag on it? Thats how I roll...lol :D :p

What size stock are you using for them? I'm hopeing to get sent to the world trade center soon or the Tappanzee bridge...but in the meantime im getting sick of the playstation!!
 
I like the spear head a lot, with and without the knot, but after thinking about it for much of the day, I really prefer it without the knot work.

Oh well, you've got to have one odd ball in the crowd, right?

Check out cold steel for the haft. They have some for their spears. I think one is a 6'er. Great job by the way. I really like the knot work. It just make the piece a bit more classy. Now for actual hunting I would take it off as it would get in the way and make a real mess. If you are going to go for hog you do need a cross bar unless you throw it from a tree. Then take you 12ga w 00 buck for BU.

Tryppyr, like Joe and Robert sez NY has some hogs too. But your idea is better, it's illegal to hunt anything in NY with a spear. I'd love to hunt a hog with a spear and knife!

Joe, I'm making them 1/4" by 1 1/2" 5160. I'm still on long island and no tools of my own, but If I get upstate soon i'll let you know, you gotta come by now I got the powerhammer!

Dan, yeh I agree it was slicker and more utilitarian without the wrap.

Chuck, I was looking at Cold steel just now, probably be the route I go not too bad a price. I got one in the works that will have lugs on it specifically for hog hunting, this ones probably just for throwing hehe.
