Why do you guys like darn tough over smart wool? How do they compare?
Darn tough for my work (construction) socks. They have outlasted comparable (weight and composition) smartwool socks on the job.Why do you guys like darn tough over smart wool? How do they compare?
That would be my one complaint about smartwool: some styles seem to wear out faster than others. I may be wrong, but the ones made in USA seem to last longer—or the older models were made better?Darn tough for my work (construction) socks. Smartwool phd for my running socks. They stay in place great. Super comfortable.
Darn tough for my everyday socks. Both because they are super comfortable and because they are long lasting. I haven’t replaced a pair yet (of my everyday socks). Some are 5+ years. They don’t feel or look any different than the first day I wore them. I also like darn toughs color schemes.
I do have a few pair of REI merino wool socks that I really like and use as everyday/hiking socks but I haven’t been able to find the same sock instore for a few years.
For me, any decent wool sock is an upgrade from cotton.
I would say if you haven’t tried a pair of darn tough that you should. I’m not saying you’ll be blown away compared to the smartwool, but I think you may notice a difference in the long term. That would be my one complaint about smartwool: some styles seem to wear out faster than others. I wear them daily and some have not worn out in a decade. There have been a couple of pair that wore out prematurely IMO. I’m especially fond of the thicker socks in cold and the thin ankle socks for summer with running shoes.
I agree, no cotton in my sock drawer.
