Socks? What's good out there?

Why do you guys like darn tough over smart wool? How do they compare?

Rei brand wool socks a 2 times thicker than standard darn tough which i prefer i wear them hot or cold. I lesrned the thickness helps soak or wick any wetness up for me. I love them.

There are lots of good boot socks out there. A must are thin liner socks that wick away sweat, extend the life of the socks and prevent chafing. You’ll wash the thick socks less frequently.

For me.. My feet sweat more in SmartWool than my DarnToughs.. Don't have a rhyme or reason.. They just do.. Now.. I do wear my SmartWools still though at times!!

Darn tough for my work (construction) socks. They have outlasted comparable (weight and composition) smartwool socks on the job.
Smartwool phd for my running socks. They stay in place great. Super comfortable.
Darn tough for my everyday socks. Both because they are super comfortable and because they are long lasting. I haven’t replaced a pair yet (of my everyday socks). Some are 5+ years. They don’t feel or look any different than the first day I wore them. I also like darn toughs color schemes.
I do have a few pair of REI merino wool socks that I really like and use as everyday/hiking socks but I haven’t been able to find the same sock instore for a few years.
For me, any decent wool sock is an upgrade from cotton.

That would be my one complaint about smartwool: some styles seem to wear out faster than others. I may be wrong, but the ones made in USA seem to last longer—or the older models were made better?

I wear them daily and some have not worn out in a decade. There have been a couple of pair that wore out prematurely IMO. I’m especially fond of the thicker socks in cold and the thin ankle socks for summer with running shoes.

I agree, no cotton in my sock drawer.

I've used Smart Wool for years in the field and deployed. Excellent socks that really do wick moisture away from your feet.

I would say if you haven’t tried a pair of darn tough that you should. I’m not saying you’ll be blown away compared to the smartwool, but I think you may notice a difference in the long term.
Or you may decide the smartwool are superior.

Darn Tough lasts longer, stay in place better, feel a TINY bit better, my feet don’t sweat as much during times of relaxation, and they just seem to be a bit better quality. That said I have several pairs of SmartWool and for the money they are fantastic as well. I just prefer the Darn Tough ones.
