That is a really interesting and very cool impact tool. And the handle is in very good condition as well. If you were to lightly sand it (keep the patina of age) and give it a couple coats of BLO followed by 3-4 coats of tung oil it would absolutely glow.

I have some tung oil in my garage. That would make a good winter project.

I know I'm 3yrs late to the party, but I was just given this today ( I'm pretty sure it's what you guys are talking about ) and found this thread in a Google Search.
It's a zabarte tools adze eye mattocks with a curved Vaughan handle, so I'm assuming it was actually made by them since they did acquire the patent. But it says patent pending and doesn't look like the current Vaughan version.
